‘MoniKa’ Film Review
May 3, 2013- The private industry screening of the revenge thriller MoniKa, written and directed by Steven R. Monroe, and co-hosted by Dread Central's Sean Decker, was held last night at The Lot/Audio Head in West Hollywood. Produced by Steven R. Monroe and Cerina Vincent, the film stars Jason Wiles (Third Watch), Jeff Branson (I Spit on Your Grave, Young & The Restless), Cerina Vincent (Cabin Fever, Return To House on Haunted Hill, Not Another Teen Movie), Andrew Howard (Limitless, I Spit on Your Grave, Hangover 2), Elisa Donovan (Clueless, Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Lew Temple (The Walking Dead) and C. Thomas Howell (Southland).
In attendance were the stars of the film Cerina Vincent, Jason Wiles, and Jeff Branson, director Steven R, Monroe and executive producer Aaron Hoffman. Other industry appearances were from film producer Clinton H. Wallace (Blue Dream starring Dominique Swain and James Duval) and film producer/director Christy Oldham (Barracuda).
MoniKa is an engaging, sexy, suspenseful ride that unfolds around the forlorn Reagan Tyler (Jason Wiles), a man who is troubled by visions and premonitions that ultimately lead him to Las Vegas. It's there that Reagan meets the beautiful and mysterious Monika (Cerina Vincent), a young woman who turns out to have been killed the night before he even met her, by a couple of low-end Vegas drug dealers (Andrew Howard, Jeff Branson). Reagan is then forced to put the puzzle together, and help Monika seek revenge on the ruthless killers who wreaked havoc on her family and friends. Wiles gives a stellar performance in this gritty thriller which takes place mostly in a seedy motel and desert exteriors. Vincent delivers a bad-ass captivating edgy performance as she demonstrates how to properly use dual hand guns from her dream like existence as a ghost caught between two worlds. Howard offers moments of comical relief when his thug character tries to find balance by practicing his southern hospitality when no one is looking. Branson is a sexy dead beat drug addict who ultimately pays for the trouble he inflicted on MoniKa’s sister while C. Thomas Howell’s character entertains as a struggling B level producer who enjoys the underworld of all that Las Vegas offers.
Shot brilliantly by Cinematographer Nicola Marsh and edited by Kristina Hamilton-Grobler with original music by Corey Allen Jackson and executive produced by Aaron Hoffman. MoniKa will be released in the Fall of 2013 by SC Global Media. For more info, go to: www.dazzleentertainment.com and www.dreadcentral.com
