300 Short Form Content Films In-Competition, 50 World Premieres, Representing 20 Countries
The celebrated HollyShorts Film Festival enters it’s 8th year, and continues to selectively curate in-competition: music videos, commercials, trailers, web series, documentary shorts, international projects, student shorts, action shorts, comedies, midnight horror/thriller shorts, animated shorts, and drama shorts; and plays host to panels, award presentations, crowd pleasing parties, and ohhh much more.
Expect Thursday's Opening Night festivities to be a star-studded affair at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Zachary Quinto (Star Trek) and his Before The Door Pictures banner will open the fest with the theatrical premiere of PERIODS, a comedy film series, which will include a premiere short from Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley. HollyShorts’ Visionary Award Honoree, Joe Carnahan (The Grey), will present a special screening of his Paramount Pictures acclaimed feature Narc preceded by the showcase of his short film For Sale By Owner. He will also introduce the world premiere of Zachary Guerra's new short film The Devil's Dosh, which Carnahan executive produced. Additional shorts screening opening night are Jason Bergh and Sal Masakela's documentary Alekesam, Marc Brenner's comedy Say It Ain't Solo, and Nathaniel Krause's Double or Nothing written by Neil LaBute starring Adam Brody, Louisa Krause, and Keith David.
The 2nd Annual HollyShorts Indie Film Summit will comprise of insightful panels and case studies from the Producers Guild of America, International Cinematographer's Guild, Women in Film, and Method Studios among others.
Showcases of Shia LaBeouf's directorial debut Howard Cantour.com, and Bryce Dallas Howard's When You Can Find Me: Canon's Project Imagin8ion are set to unspool. Other highlights include HBO's True Blood's Scott Schaeffer making his directorial debut with The Carrier, starring Anna Paquin, Mariana Klaveno, Carrie Preston, and Deborah Ann Wol.
Following the Carnahan homage on Friday August 10, the festival unleashes its Midnight Horror Shorts program presented by Fangoria and FEARnet, screening a series of thriller and horror short films with the winning film receiving distribution on the FEARnet platform.
This year’s HollyShorts will feature projects from Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Egypt, Estonia, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Macedonia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, the UK, and the U.S.
The festival will also exhibit in-competition student shorts from the following film schools: USC, Savannah School of Art and Design, NYU Tisch, UCLA, Florida State University, New Zealand Design and Media School, Chapman, Emerson College, ECAM (Spain), AFI, and New York Film Academy.
