Dog News Daily’s Golden Collar Award Nominees Announced - First Award Show Honoring Canine Actors

At a press conference at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood California, Penelope Ann Miller (The Artitst) and Uggie (The Artist, Water for Elephants), announced the nominees for the first ever Dog News Daily Golden Collar Awards.

And the nominees are:

DOG NEWS DAILY’S GOLDEN COLLAR HUMANITARIAN AWARD AND LEGENDS AWARD

Oscar winning actress Charlize Theron was announced as this year’s recipient of Dog News Daily’s Golden Collar Humanitarian Award for her work with Peta, Dogs Deserve Better, Much Love Animal Resuce, and Best Friends Animal Society, to improve and save the lives of shelter dogs.

According to Alan Siskind, CEO of Dog News Daily, “The award is given to a member of the entertainment community who, through their philanthropy, volunteer efforts, and unselfish use of their celebrity and fame helps to save the lives of shelter dogs and all animals through their support of non-profit animal rescue and advocacy organizations.”

Award winning Director Robert Vince was announced as the recipient of Dog News Daily Golden Collar Legends Award for his work on fourteen dog-themed movies beginning in 1997 with Disney’s Air Bud and continuing through this month’s release of Disney’s Treasure Buddies. The award recognizes an individual who has increased the opportunities and visibility of the canine actor through their dog-themed films and/or tv shows. 

The Golden Collar Awards will be held February 13, 2012, at 6pm at The Hotel Palomar in Westwood, Los Angeles, a dog-friendly Kimpton Hotel.  evening kicks off with red carpet arrivals and a private cocktail reception benefiting Los Angeles area dog rescue organizations and shelters.   The world famous artist Simon Tavassoli and his design studio BB Simon in Newport Beach CA have been commissioned to create the Golden Collar Award.
