DIFRET presented by Angelina Jolie

Difret is the first time opportunity for Zeresenay Berhane Mehari as a film director, and I can guarantee there would be many more special pieces like this one to come to our attention. This film melt my heart in a conscious way. It exposes common issues that need our attention immediately  to find solutions to social problems around the world to preserve our human rights.

Difret takes us in a dramatic journey following the tale of a girl played by Tizita Hagere and a female lawyer played by Meron Getnet, who take on the Ethiopian tradition of “telefa”, or marriage by abduction. Also, shows how the courage of brave individuals can awaken the conscience of a society. Tizita’s body language spoke louder than words, so when there was no dialog, her beautiful eyes transmitted truth and pain hard to escape from.

Angelina Jolie’s approach to these subjects behind the camera are becoming a bigger passion of her’s and her husband Brad Pitt. Thanks to Angie we get to see the truth from across the globe that connects us to be one human nation. To me it was inspiring to see such an important story so beautifully illustrated with such creative talent. In Difret we could appreciate visually the richness of the Ethiopian culture and the importance of legal advances that could be made while respecting the culture values. This story doesn’t only give hope for Ethiopia’s future, but to other countries where countless girls grow up without the protection of laws that shield them and their bodies.

I’m an actor and one of the many factors that I’m attracted to creatively is the conscious social solutions that we provide as artists to our every day problems. I know this film will travel worldwide with solutions to many in search for possibilities. No matter what country we are from or what we do for living, we are existing in this wonderful planet to use our purpose and help each other to live an abundant life.

Sharing films like Difret could easily change the world of many children in many countries without fair social rights. Let’s do our part!
