Tibi Spring 2013 Runway Show - Simplicity At It's Best

Designer, Amy Smilovic’s collection for this upcoming Spring 2013 was fresh and clean with a nod to the nineties. She gave a facelift to the grunge movement with pale denim jackets and belly baring tops that Cher Horowitz would approve of. Lately, the designer’s collections have been filled with patterns but this collection for Tibi was noticeably void of pattern save for one geometric print. The neutral palette of black, white and beige was littered with pops of pale yellows, baby pinks and powder blues. Contrasting with the pastels were black leather peplum tops and corseted belts that gave feminine shapes to otherwise simple silhouettes.

Lightwash denim and leather peplum were key elements to the simple designs

Smilovic took her own path down the floral trend with overlaid floral lace and laser cut outs on dresses.  The sheer hemlines and floral lace designs gave the simple boxy dresses a feminine touch that Tibi is known for.  The pastel color palette, easily worn throughout the spring months gave notions of Easter eggs and watercolor floral paintings.

Another trend seen throughout the show were the androgynous suit separates. Smilovic used color blocking on cropped trousers and skirts paired with boxy blazers and cropped tops. While these looks are certainly not an appropriate choice for the traditional 9 to 5 office environment, perhaps they are a hint that these suits aren’t meant for just the office. Tibi is all about the ease of wear and these looks will surely be easily worn day and night, for work and play.

Bare midriffs and pastel hues were seen throughout the show

The print that will surely be abounding at parties this spring will be the lone print of the show: the pink kaleidoscope print. This retro print definitely gave way to the mod era of the sixties, a trend seen all over the runways. In flirty and flattering silhouettes this pattern will definitely make a splash at soirees.

Fresh-faced models donned matte pink lips and powder blue eyeshadow by famed makeup house Bobbi Brown. The hair was sleek and stick straight, parted right down the middle. The overall beauty theme: no frills and fuss free just like the clothes themselves. The beauty and fashion echoed each other in the simplicity of the design and pastel hues.

A floral lace dress and geometric print were highlights of the show

As this spring collection for Tibi showed, the look is minimal but paired correctly and it is chic and feminine. One thing is for sure, 20-something “It Girls” like Solange Knowles and Olivia Palermo will definitely be sporting these easy-to-wear dresses and relaxed suit separates come this spring.
