Malibu-based designers SJOBECK (aka Garrett Gerson, JesseRay Vasquez, Lani Lupton and Shelly Sjobeck) introduced their Native-American inspired clothing line at the Los Angeles Theatre for this year’s LA Fashion Week.
The show started with the four designers coming out on the stage to address the audience about the purpose and the inspiration behind their designs. Their inspiration ranges from the Malibu lifestyle, American culture and family background influences. As soon as the designers finished their speech, the lights began to dim. But, as soon as the lights came up, the crowd was treated not only to the beating of a live drummer singing, but also to a live traditional Indian dance on the runway by a traditional Native-American Indian dancer in full headdress and body wear. This theatrical aspect masterfully set the tone for the evening and garnered thunderous applause from everyone in the packed theatre.
Up first on deck was a male model dressed in a pair of SJOBECK’s denim jeans that donned full headdress and created quite the stir with the crowd particularly with the ladies. Next up, were the women and men’s fashions which consisted of a wide range of designs that conveyed the influences of the cowboy and Indian background from head to toe. From denim jeans to plaid shirts to long skirts and sexy dresses, SJOBECK gave the audience a wide range of designs that can be worn as everyday casual as well as evening chic. In addition, SJOBECK did a marvelous job of using accessories such as necklaces, feathers and belts on each of their designs as an added touch to convey the culture and provide a timeless appeal.
What made this runway show enjoyable was that there were no points where the show lagged. Each design flowed seamlessly on the runway one right after the other. At the end of the show, all the models made their strides down the runway to show off this innovative and everyday wear clothing line. Afterwards, the designers took to the stage to receive their accolades from an enthusiastic audience.
Overall, SJOBECK was definitely a show that was worthy of a spot in this year’s LA Fashion Week. They pride on their designs and their mantra with their mission in providing American made clothing for the general public and their consumers. SJOBECK’s designs were worn by HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL star Zac Efron and featured on the 2007 cover of People Magazine. They can also be found at various trendy boutiques in the Southern California area such as Fred Segal, Ron Herman and Envie as well as across the Midwest and New York.
