Reem Acra Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection Review — Feminine Persuasion

It should come as no surprise that Reem Acra’s Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection was inspired by female empowerment. The red lacquered runway literally set the stage for a new series of second-skin silhouettes, which screamed “femme fatale”! The presentation’s sensuality and strength were embodied by malleable textiles leather, lurex, and boucle); a rich palette (hunter, bordeaux, and ebony); and romantic design details (peplums, sequins, and embroideries).

The collection’s 36 looks summoned the independence and moxie of a modern-day Hitchcock heroine with a hint of metallic 20’s flapper for evening. This woman felt cool, calculating, cosmopolitan, and extremely confident. Sheath dresses, funnel-neck jackets, and pencil skirts all in leather gave the feminine proportions an unexpected edge, while the latter half of the collection with multi-sequins, tulle inserts, diamond embroideries, and metallic accents highlighted Ms. Acra’s signature note of glamour.

Femininity has consistently served Reem Acra well, whether as an underlying or intertwining, even as a pervasive theme. No matter what her color scheme or pattern-play, her fabrications and impeccable tailoring always weave a sartorial tale that celebrates womanhood. The beauty buzz echoed the collection’s strength and confidence. Stylist Rutger Van der Heide slicked the hair back in a high ponytail. Pat McGrath focused on the eye, by creating a sultry smoky eye and peachy nude lip, with a hint of gloss.

My favorite looks from the Reem Acra Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection included: the sunburst beaded leather bolero jacket atop an ebony top-stitched leather sheath dress; a Bordeaux funnel-neck leather jacket with Bordeaux slim buttery leather pencil skirt; an ebony trapunto-stitched fitted leather jacket with peplum and ebony three-dimensional pinwheel embroidered skirt; an ebony cashmere crew knit sweater with lace-stitched front panel and ebony slim boucle pencil skirt; a rustic northwood short cropped jacket with gold embroidered pocket detail over ivory sleeveless Chantilly mock turtleneck and gold three-dimensional pinwheel embroidered skirt; a silk chiffon flapper dress with sequin insets; an ebony silk crepe peek-a-boo gown; the strapless golden silver embroidered gown; and the finale gown, an ebony sunburst embroidered one-shoulder silk crepe and tulle gown.
