Monique Lhuillier Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection Review — Sporty, Sexy, Silhouettes

Last autumn, Monique Lhuillier showed us her sultry side and this season, she developed that provocatively sexy direction even further with 44 new alluring looks. Her Spring 2012 Collection was inspired by women who are embracing a healthier lifestyle, focusing on exercise and fitness; hence the silhouette complimented the physique with intricate seaming, bold color-blocking, and accents of leather for an unexpected edge. The paneling and juxtaposition of colors created a lean shape; while the lace overlay treatments, brushstroke and splatter prints added a sense of whimsy.

According to the program notes Monique Lhuillier’s Spring 2012 Collection is all about bold, saturated colors with a sporty, athletic influence. Evening is all about sexy silhouettes, open backs, cut-outs with lace insets, and graphic prints infused with cadmium yellow and cobalt blue.

Backstage the Los Angeles-based designer noted that while she’s not trend-driven, she did want to inject her collection with a youthful vibrancy in the form of brighter hues, like the cadmium, cyan, and magenta we saw here. Ms. Lhuillier described her three-month process, working nonstop for the last six weeks—all building up to this season’s runway presentation. Since many of the celebrities she dresses are so petite, she is always looking for tricks to elongate their frames. One such starlet in attendance was the ADORABLE Julianne Hough, who was on the road promoting the release of Footloose. She said of the collection backstage, “It was SO BEAUTIFUL, ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!” Julianne, I couldn’t agree more…

My favorite looks from the Monique Lhuillier Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection included: the cyan blue crepe strapless corset seamed cocktail dress; the carbon black leather wool paneled coat; the carbon crepe racer tank with lace back atop the cyan blue crepe pencil skirt and with sequin front; the magenta chiffon gown with crackle leather banded bodice with side lace insert; the indigo blue crepe strapless corset seamed gown with sequin panel; the cadmium yellow graphic embroidered chiffon v-neck cocktail dress; and the brushstroke crepe strapless draped gown.
