Fashion X Austin 'Emerging Fashion Designers' - Austin Fashion Week 2015

Austin Fashion Week showcases independent and emerging designers, and in 2015 AFW returned for the seventh time. It was one of the largest fashion events in the state of Texas and ran from April 10th to the 18th.

Austin Texas is well known for its creative community in arts, films, and music. A quickly growing city like Austin provides amazing opportunities for upcoming and emerging Fashion Designers.  Texas colleges offer a variety of courses in fashion such as the University Of Texas, St. Edwards University, Baylor University, The Art Institute, The San Antonio Art and Design School, Texas State University, the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising, and Texas Woman's University.

Austin Fashion Week 2015 brought three fashionably glamorous nights to the Austin Music Hall with original runway shows.

The first night of AFW on April 16th was called “Discover” and its collection was presented by upcoming designers whom the majority were from Texas while others were from Los Angeles, New York, and Australia.

Tinsley Radix  (Dallas, TX) Established in 2013, Tinsley Radix is a custom fashion brand designed by the co-founders of the women’s boutique, Chantilly Dallas.

Loren Franco (Dallas, TX) Inspired by family, art, and the fascination of fashion, Loren Franco Designs offers consumers handmade children, women's wear, and accessories.

Robb & Lulu  (Australia) A luxury Australian swim and resort wear brand, with a wide collection of bikinis, bags, beach apparel, and scarves. They combine iconic artwork and incredibly prints.

Darlene Araiza  (Lubbock, TX) The designs of Darlene are neutral with feminine and masculine attributes.

Smith II (Dallas, TX) The designs are innovative, dynamic and an expression of sensuality. Smith presents a haute couture for men and women.  

Stephen Goudeau (Richardson, TX) One of the favorite designers of the evening during AFW 2015! Goudeau has a very remarkable style, with eye catching designs that are visually unique. Godeau had his designs during NY Fashion week 2013 where he gained a lot of attention.

K. Frame  (Baton Rouge, LA) Heavily inspired by free spirit, simplicity, and effortless aesthetic.

Caycee Black (Brooklyn, NY) The Caycee Black Collection's central focus of design originates with three-dimensional paintings fitted for those who refuse to simply assimilate to their environment.

Abi Ferrin  (Dallas, TX) The versatile and sophisticated fashion brand offers expertly designed pieces in easy-to-care-for fabrics providing a chic solution for women of all ages and body types.  

Mysterious by NPN Nicholas Phat Nguyen has a sophisticated muse for fashion creating spectacular dresses out of fairy tales.  He came to America as an international student. After almost 10 years of living in America, he decided to stay and make his dreams come true. He is an inspiring, talented and phenomenal designer with a bright future ahead!

The second night of runway shows on April 17th was called "Stars” and was presented by the sponsor Bernina. The most popular designers from Lifetime’s Television series “Project Runway” presented their collections.

Daniel Esquivel (Austin,TX)  The Project Runway season 11 finalist. He showed his collection at  New York’s Fashion Week 2013. During AFW 2015 Daniel Esquivel showed his stunning and refined collection which is very chic and sophisticated.

Gunnar Deatherage (Louisville, KY) Contestant on seasons 9 and 10 of Lifetime’s Project Runway. He presented his Spring/Summer 2012 collection for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Gunnar’s collection at AFW was spectacular and out of this world!

Michelle Lesniak (Portland, OR) Project Runway’s Season 11 winner. Lesniak’s designs are enfolded by art, print, texture, and she has a very distinctive collection.

Amanda Valentine (Nashville, TN) She competed at The Project Runway during season 11. She has presented her beautiful collections at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2014. She is very innovative and authentic with an extraordinary talent in the fashion industry.

La Miniatura  (Los Angeles, CA) Jeffrey Sebelia the designer won the season three of the Series Project Runway, with edgy kids clothes. During AFW 2015 La Miniatura showed a fun line for kids and the audience was very engaged with his incredible designs.

Anthony Ryan Auld (Baton Rouge, LA) He won the second season of  Project Runway All Stars on Lifetime. He inspire women with his designs to use clean lines, definitive shapes and a bold selection of graphics. He is an incredible designer!

Melissa Fleis (Los Angeles, CA) She participated Lifetime’s Project Runway Season 10, "top three" at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, and she also competed at  Project Runway All Stars Season 3. Fleis combines her bold, architectural silhouettes with a modern, artisanal edge.

The third night of runway shows during AFW 2015  ”Finale” was on April 18th. The evening featured an awards presentation, along with some of Austin’s favorite designers showing collections on the runway at Austin Music Hall.

Ross Bennett (Austin, TX) Ross has been making custom pieces for men and women all over Texas. His clothes have been featured in fashion shows across the country, including an eight-week installment at the State Fair of Texas; as well as an appearance on NBC’s ‘Fashion Star’ and for the last 2 Formula 1 racing seasons of 2012 and 2013.

Gail Chovan (Austin,TX)  Chovan's designs are most often monochromatic, without the distraction of hue. Texture, form, and line take precedence. Gail Chovan's creations reflect her appreciation of fine craftsmanship and timelessness.

Samantha Plasencia (Austin,TX) She has showcased at New York fashion week and plans to do more runway shows in the future with hopes to influence others through her work. A former contestant on the hit Lifetime show Project Runway, she has been able to show her talents worldwide.

Nine Muses (Dallas, TX) Focuses on luxury women's sports wear and evening wear while incorporating high quality craftsmanship, unique​ design details, and an effortless sense of sophistication.

Rare Trends (Austin,TX) Strives to connect with women who seek unique designs and who prefer to make bold fashion statements. Unique Couture. Rare in its kind.

Sally Daneshjou Collection (Austin,TX) Brings the classic elegance of glamour and sexy sophistication creating a trendy and edgy collection.

This is Sloane (Austin,TX) Creates striking garments utilizing unconventional materials.

LaRue Designs (Austin, TX) The style of the line embodies the life of a hip local girl from TX.

Spire The Label  (Austin, TX) The aesthetic is minimal and the designs are simple and easily paired.

Sixchel (Austin, TX) The pieces themselves are a celebration of aesthetics. The brand represents the face of the modern urbane woman, sophisticated, smart, confidently and sexy.

Saint Isabel  (Austin,TX) Bridal designer that focuses on the unconventional bride with a bohemian spirit.

Cristal Martinez  (Austin,TX) The designer has a vintage collection of clothing.

Adrienne Yunger  (San Antonio, TX) The line consists of couture bridal separates that can be mixed and matched for brides that want to change from the ceremony to the reception.

Jessica Faith (Dallas, TX)The style of her designs are very clean and bohemian.

Hechizo Del Mar (Austin,TX) The articles of clothing are all handmade in Colombia with the highest quality of fabrics, sequins, and beads; imported from Mexico.

Lala (Austin, TX) The style of Lala designs are innovative and fresh.

Elrick  (Austin, TX) The designs incorporate eastern and western influences that are sexy and elegant.

Liberty 61 The style is minimalist. Socially conscious clothing. The pieces are made with the finest organic bamboo fibers.
