Doo.Ri Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection Review — Poetry in Motion

According to the liner notes, Doo-Ri Chung said she was inspired by an elegant, haunting movement for her Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection. She created graceful slouches with long lines that enveloped the body as if to capture the fabric in flight, in slow motion. The 31 looks presented featured a predominantly neutral palette in bone, grey, charcoal, black, ink, and chocolate. Ms. Chung is lauded for her exemplary draping skills; the tailoring and detailing (twist-knot tops, waffle stitched pullovers, inverted pleats, and laser-cut necklines) here were absolutely exquisite.

We’ve seen a lot of layering in recent seasons, a trend I live by—not only because it’s such a chic way to adjust to varying temperatures, but also because it creates visual and textural interest. An indie-favorite amongst the fashionably hip, Doo-Ri Chung recently joined the masses, when her diffusion line debuted at Macy’s on February 15th! In fabrications of jersey, neoprene, silk, shearling, mohair, and cashmere, the collection’s silhouette was highlighted by an ease of movement with high-waisted trousers, parachute wrap tops, and cropped poncho jackets; while deconstructured front-panel separates, structured seamed coats, and leather detailing balanced the presentation with a more defined shape.

Some of the most coveted looks from the Doo.Ri Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection were: the bone layered shearling jacket with the bone washed silk long sleeve slouchy dress; the beige mohair waffle stitch pullover with iridescent parachute sleeveless shirt, and the bone washed silk draped skirt; the ice grey bonded jersey and suede coat with ice grey bonded jersey long sleeve turtleneck with laser cut neckline, and charcoal flannel high-waisted tapered trouser; the black/white stripe draped twist sweater with black silk mesh top with knit sleeves, and ice grey slinky jersey draped skirt; the chocolate jersey and leather sleeveless turtleneck with pale pink neoprene high-waisted wide0leg trouser; the ink jersey and cotton layered laser cut dress; and the ink double neoprene seamed coat with leather detail with rich brass parachute sleeveless ruffle front belted dress.
