For Fall 2013, Dennis Basso cited four of the 20th century’s most iconic and fashionable socialites: Babe Paley, Gloria Guinness, Millicent Rogers, and CZ Guest. As he noted in the liner notes, “All women who were not afraid of putting their personal signature on what they wore.” Triumphantly marking his 30th year in the industry, the longtime furrier continued to prove that his ensembles do indeed extend into the daywear and evening separates layered under all those sumptuous furs and exotics. Front row VIP’s included Joan Collins, Joan Rivers, Martha Stewart, Carol Alt, Star Jones, and Kelly Bensimon while his new fall campaign model Coca Rocha posed with the designer backstage. Joan Rivers wasn’t the only QVC comrade to join the ranks and lend her support, fellow designer (and famed stylist) Lori Goldstein styled the runway presentation.
“I feel that this collection reflects those great women of style, while the fabrics and furs give way to a glamorous and tailored vision. These are definitely today’s looks for the modern international woman.”
The collection was grounded by a cool and clean palette with hues of French grey, tones of blue, sheer black, ivory and touches of chartreuse. Plaids also played an important role and were interpreted in a myriad of ways from metallic plaid and tweed to plaid sequins on chiffon and combined with embroidery on tulle. Fabrications used included lace, duchess satin, organza, and washed velvets. Prominent silhouettes featured deep box pleats, knee-grazing skirts, fitted bodices, and body-hugging seams to accentuate the female figure.
The John Barrett Hair Team pulled the hair back in a bouncy ponytail of soft pin-curled waves. The Kabuki Team created a soft smokey eye, highlighting the cheeks in a peachy blush and finished with a russet lip. The soundtrack was a sublimely eclectic mix of Lana Del Rey’s “National Anthem,” Ellie Goulding’s “Only You,” Asaf Avidan’s “Different Pulses,” Florence + The Machine’s “Breath of Life,” David Lehnbern’s and Elin Lindfors’ “Lazrus”
