Inspired by over the top Russian opulence, Clover Canyon’s Fall 2013 Collection was a trip to the Russian Ballet decked out in extreme luxury. The designers of Clover Canyon took us on a field trip to the early 20th century Ballet Russes complete with lavish costume design, beautiful ballerinas and exquisite set display. While it was an homage to the nation of excess, the designers took everything in moderation. Graceful ballerinas teetered on pointe shoes bedazzled with Swarovski crystals amidst a printed backdrop of the expansive and snow covered Siberian Plain. Clover Canyon, known for their unique prints, didn’t disappoint with more than 25 new prints displayed on pants, skirts, sweaters and dresses. The looks that were not covered in prints were bedazzled with jewel toned sequin paillettes showcasing the theme of opulence.

Examples of Russian opulence were evident in the Swarovski crystal adorned shoes

Digitally mastered graphics of royal jewels and Faberge eggs were displayed on the garments staying true to the signature Clover Canyon print themed collection. Hand engineered prints were given names like Gold Swan and Chandelier Night for the inspiration behind each one. The prints were so unique and each looked like a kaleidoscope picture of each theme. While the gems of royal proportions weren’t exactly real, touches of glamour were still used with sequined palettes and faux fur trimmings on many of the garments.

The luxurious prints were place on comfortable fabrics for the ultimate luxury of comfort

The collection veered away from a traditional tutu while still opting for feminine silhouettes that highlighted the waist. Chiffon skirts that were long and billowy were nipped in at the waist for a feminine look. Structured sleeves on dresses looked strong and yet so comfortable given the neoprene construction. Printed pants, a huge trend this spring, were in abundance and will certainly continue to be on trend for this coming fall.

Makeup and hair was inspired by ice princesses coming inside from a cold snowstorm

The makeup by Kevyn Acoin was fresh and clean with hints of glitter on the cheekbones and eyes. It was meant to give the appearance of the girls having just stepped indoors from the cold. The hair was pulled up into a high beehive with speckles of glitter to give it a snowy look.

Overall, Clover Canyon’s collection will surely continue to be a favorite amongst the fashion it girls but given the oh’s and ah’s from the crowd, they gained many new fans for this fall. The glamorous collection blended with comfortable construction will certainly be easy to wear and interesting to look at. Inspired by Russian opulence and pretty ballerinas, this collection was a good dose of extravagance in moderation.
