Carlos Miele Spring 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection Review — Anywhere Faraway

Brazilian designer Carlos Miele never misses an opportunity to give us a provocatively sensual collection. And for Spring 2012, he unveiled 32 new looks, which considerably amped up the sexy quotient. As if the pit photographers needed further excuse after Lisalla Montenegro, the stunning Maybelline and Victoria’s Secret model, found her front row seat, to send their blood pressures skyrocketing—vividly bright caftans, gowns, and jumpsuits in a medley of tropical prints were the order of the day. And with their hair slicked back, it was as if these models had emerged from the water, as the most glamorous sea creatures imaginable.

“I seek a dialogue between artificial and natural, modified beauty and organic technology, and life. This season, I created an artificial paradise, filled with liquid and fluid lines, sleek sculptural forms, and vibrant digital prints,” noted the designer. The painterly oversized and abstract goldfish, oyster, reef, and sea cliff prints read like a Georgia O’Keefe painting on a canvas of silk chiffon. According to the program notes, the collection titled “Immersive Landscapes” was born from the idea of immersive artificial environments, which can be created in virtual reality. “In a perfect imaginary world, there is a perpetual sun—it is all full of vivid colors and chemical tones.”

The seascape palette of white, coral, jade, aqua, and Mediterranean blue provided the calming, resort canvas for a myriad of aquatic. Most of the looks accentuated either the waist with a cinched belt or the décolletage and shoulders with a deeper neckline or a cold shoulder cut. Chiffon caftans, charmeuse dresses, and crepe jumpsuits were countered by mesh tops, viscose wide pants, and satin skirts—giving the ensembles both fluidity in movement and shapely structure. The languid silhouette was beautifully accentuated by jewelry from Ivanka Trump; a diamond tassel necklace, a rose gold and rock crystal emerald cut bracelet, long black onyx drop earrings, and a pearl tassel necklace were just a handful of offerings; while slivers of blue, lime green, and gold added a playful pop to the accessories.

My favorite looks from the Carlos Miele Spring 2012 Collection included: the sea cliff print silk chiffon caftan with white shell bathing suit; the coral crepe jumpsuit; the goldfish print silk charmeuse long dress; the white shell crepe short dress with gold embroidered detail; the fish skin print long dress with fuxico appliqué; and the fish skin print silk charmeuse jumpsuit. The runway soundtrack featured the 1970’s song “A Tonga da Mironga do Kabuleté” by Vinicuis de Moraes and Toquinho, which poetically translates to “anywhere, faraway.” One thing’s for certain, after viewing this collection I felt tranquil blue seas and warm sands calling my name…
