BIBHU MOHAPATRA Fall 2015 Collection Review - An Incredible Fashion Journey

When the first model stepped onto the catwalk at the Bibhu Mohapatra Fall 2015 runway show, dressed in a stunning midnight blue cashmere trench coat,  it was apparent that the audience was about to be taken on an incredible fashion journey.

I have been a huge personal fan of Bibhu  for several years now.  A brilliant artist, his consistent use of color and graphic print, impeccable tailoring, intricate bead work, and sensational choice of luxury textiles is utterly on point season after season.  With A-list celebrity clients including Jennifer Lopez, Elizabeth Moss, Lupita Nyong’o, and our First Lady Michelle Obama, Bibhu has propelled into the fashion spotlight, becoming one of the most reveredand highly coveted designers in the United States.

As per the show program, the Fall 2015 collection was inspired by “The unrequited love between the worldly poet (W.B. Yeats) and his other-worldly muse (Maud Gonne).”  That might be true, but I witnessed something even more profound.  In early December, Bibhu lost his father, with whom he was very close, and several pieces in his collection reflected a sense of elegant restraint, which I believe was inspired by his father’s passing.  Featuring a color palate of black, midnight blue, indigo, rusty red, marigold yellow, silver and white, each offering was truly more extraordinary than the next.

Stand out looks for me included:

Indigo and midnight dyed astrakhan coat over onyx and indigo backgammon dress

Ruby dye broadtail mink cutaway jacket with sheared mink shields, ruby silk blouse and marigold draped pants

Ruby organza embroidered backgammon dress with dyed ostrich feather skirt

Ivory kaleidoscope embroidery crepe dress with crepe tail

Silver grey silk gazar gown with chain mail and feathers

I must also give kudos to his choice of footwear this season.

Bihbu collaborated with Max Martin, an American made luxury footwear brand, to produce custom shoes for the collection.  They were feminine, classic and the absolute perfect pairing for his presentation.  I personally cannot wait to don the sensational color blocked cream long haired pony and black leather pumps.  SO INCREDIBLY CHIC!!!
