BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection Review — Bauhaus Abstract

BCBG Max Azria opened Mercedes-Benz Fall 2012 Fashion Week with a Bauhaus-inspired collection. Designing husband Max Azria with his wife and Creative Director, Lubov unveiled 34 new looks in traditional silhouettes (parkas, trench coats, shift dresses, and jumpsuits) in autumnal blocks of color (cream with taupe, coral and navy, ambrosia with macchiato, navy and rust, black with teal). The BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear Collection extended a manipulation of proportion beyond a bold juxtaposition of color, with geometric patchworks of leather and fur accents. Front row fashionistas included Erica Dasher, Giada DeLaurentiis, Maria Menounos, and Erin Wasson.

While the silhouette of blouson sleeves and wide leg pants skewed somewhat bohemian 70’s; pleating details, piped trims, tulle inserts, and stamped exotics elevated the shapes for a look that was modern and sophisticated. Once again dresses dominated the BCBG runway, with only eight of the thirty-four looks not featuring a shift, skirt, or gown of some kind. This season’s palette was predominantly neutral in shades of cream, blush, stone, taupe, camel, navy, and black, with intermittent pops of merlot, paprika, lemongrass, and teal. Color blocking and mixed media have become increasingly ubiquitous runway trends and their popularity has only gained momentum as designers find innovative ways to dissect and splice together optical illusions that keep us looking and wanting for more.

Standout looks from the BCBG Max Azria Fall 2012 Collection included: the cream/taupe canvas and leather colorblocked trench with cream silk v-neck blouse, merlot silk wide trouser, and cognac suede booties; the cream/neutral crepe colorblocked shift dress with natural patchwork shrug, burgundy suede ankle strap shoe, and neutral foldover clutch; the light stone/black silk jumpsuit with black suede bootie, and ivory stamped snake clutch; the navy/rust silk printed colorblocked dress with navy suede ankle strap shoe, and camel/black leather shoulder bag; and the black wool leather cropped jacket with navy/green georgette shift dress, navy suede ankle strap shoe, and emerald stamped croco frame clutch.
