If the crowd was any indication of the popularity of the Alice + Olivia by Stacey Bendet brand then this collection is sure to be seen all over the place come this spring. Judging by the never-ending line outside of the Highline for the Spring 2014 presentation by the veteran designer, the presentation is not only good for gorgeous clothing and accessories but also a great party.
Known for her love of ball gown skirts and fitted tops, this collection didn’t stray far from the usual. A mash up of preppy and pretty, Stacey Bendet paired simple sporty separates with gorgeous party ready pieces. Paying close attention to the short, polo shirt and sweater, the traditionally country club staples were updated with a twist. A stand out for this collection was a pristine white pique polo tucked into a color blocked printed ball gown skirt all topped off with a blush python printed cross body bag. The designer’s use of pastel colored leather was a huge hit fit for the likes of Hollywood "It Girls" like Taylor Mumsen. In particular, a mint green midi length full skirt with a matching cropped top was equal parts pretty and sporty.
Becoming known for her clever attention to detail, the embellishment found throughout the collection was impressive. A bedazzled cropped blazer over a collegiate sweater paired with ripped up jeans was Coco Chanel meets Gwen Stefani. The juxtaposition found throughout the warehouse space turned club was refreshing and spot on for spring trends.
The gowns were particularly gorgeous and seemed to be inspired by the Great Gatsby with layers of ruffled chiffon and draped beaded blouses. Gorgeous Japanese inspired prints echoed the roaring twenties trend and gave flair to the otherwise neutral collection.
Alice + Olivia designer, Stacey Bendet surely knows two things: how to throw a party and how to make fresh looks that will surely sell out each and every season. While doing something as simple as updating old classics such as the polo shirt, the styling and materials made it all oh so new and exciting. Look out for this collection at a store near you come this spring.
