Oh Canada kicked off Golden Globes Awards weekend with a Special Performance by rock legend Burton Cummings and Hosts Catherine O’Hara and David Steinberg, benefiting the new Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
With a cocktail party taking place on Thursday, January 9th on the Roof Garden of The Peninsula Beverly Hills, the two-day eventfeatured Canadian entertainment, libations and cuisine. The elegant event also featured the U.S. debut performance for 2013 Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) Awards CBC Rising Star Award-winner Bobby Wills, accompanied by Alabama Music Hall of Fame Walk of Fame bronze star recipient Walt Aldridge and Mike Pyle.
Bobby Wills' performed his CCMA nominated and Canadian #1 hit single, "Show Some Respect," co-written by Aldridge and Pyle. Wills will donate all proceeds from iTunes downloads worldwide from January 2014 through December 2015 in support of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights.
In addition to actress/comedienne Catherine O’Hara and comedian/director David Steinberg, the events’ host committee was led by human rights activist/producer/director Kweku Mandela, a grandson of the late South African activist/president Nelson Mandela. The evening was presented by Lilyfield Cakes to benefit the Friends of the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, which is opening in September in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The inauguralOh Canada Gift Loungeand Benefit Cocktail Party marked the first time Canadian products and services from Manitoba, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal have been housed together in a single gifting suite, and welcomed a steady stream of American and Canadian filmmakers, movie and television stars, and journalists who stopped by to learn about and celebrate some of Canada's most coveted artists, creators and manufacturers.
Organized and hosted by Winnipeg-based Heather Stewart of the popular Lilyfield Cakes, the 2nd Annual Oh Canada Gift Lounge featured a meticulously curated and vibrant selection of prominent as well as up-and-coming Canadian artisans and companies hand-selected to introduce their cutting edge and top quality products and services to the influential Los Angeles market.
