The Palm Springs International Film Festival and Awards Gala 2013 Review - A Night to Remember

The night of The Palm Springs International Film Festival and Awards Gala 2013 was pleasantly cool.  I self parked across the convention center where the gala was held and had to walk with high heels along with a crowd of people to get to the event.  As I came closer to the front of the building I noticed flashing lights, loud voices and two long red carpets which followed through the front door of the convention center.  I was not sure why there were two red carpets.  Then I realized, one was for the celebrities and the other was for the non celebrities.  I started walking on the red carpet to get to the gala and felt extremely special even as a non celebrity.  The festival had their volunteers on the sidelines cheering as we passed through.  As I saw lights flashing, I could not help thinking they were flashing at our non celebrity red carpet but as I looked to my left, I noticed Ben Affleck and Alan Arkin from the movie "Argo" giving an interview!  At that point, I knew where all the excitement was coming from.

The Red Carpet

I finally made it through the front door and stepped into a large room full of people wearing beautiful gowns, tuxes and stylish cocktail attire.  There were three large bars each well decorated with a brand name vodka bottle sitting tall in each bar as a prop.  I rushed to the bar to get myself a drink since it was almost time for the awards dinner to begin.  The red carpet followed into the gala room along with Richard Gere entering as lights from cameras flashed and a mob of spectators gathered around making it hard for Richard Gere to make it through.  The time came to sit down at our assigned table and have our dinner.  Everything from the salad to the dessert was delicious!  Other celebrities who also presented at the gala and celebrities who received awards included Helen Hunt, Sally Field, Bradley Cooper, Naomi Watts, Helen Mirren, Diane Lane, Tom Hanks, Martin Sheen, Bryan Cranston amongst others.

The awards dinner was followed by an after party where guests had a chance to rub shoulders with the stars.  I did not have tickets to the after party and regret not making the arrangements to attend.  I still had an amazing night and I am glad I was part of such a star studded event.
