From January 16 through April 5 Scottsdale hosts Native American Song, Dance, Art and Food most Thursdays and Saturdays during the noon hour.
This is a friendly gathering, on weekends seemingly mostly locals, where you get to hear Native American tongue and song and watch dancers in full regalia perform.
The next generation is saluted and young stalwarts are part of the performance troupes, learning about their culture and endearing audiences as they do.
Scottsdale Civic Center Park is ribboned with nearby restaurants and you can not only buy Native American foods but also find other fare for a picnic.
This is a very family friendly event, and no small number of well-behaved and comely dogs seem to come too.
Native Trails is presented by the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation and produced by Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts.
You can find the 2014 performance schedule at the Native Trails website or by calling 480 421 1004.
