She’s on the hit "E!" Network reality show Khloe and Lamar and has starred in the feature film ATL and featured on our favorite TV shows like Entourage.
This bright, talented lady can certainly be loved for her roles and the zest she brings but you love her even more when you get to know her. Malika Haqq is a humble, goal-oriented, genuine woman and there is certainly more to her than what meets the eye.
Born in Sylmar, she considers herself a true Valley girl; growing up and attending schools in Reseda, Sherman Oaks and Encino. Her parents are from Chicago and moved to LA to start a different life and raise a family. Malika and her family were featured in the Los Angeles Times for her mother giving birth to two sets of twin girls without using fertility drugs. It was from the LA Times Malika and her sister were noticed as adorable twin babies and her parents were convinced to get them started in entertainment.
Malika landed her first role with her twin as a baby playing on an American television sitcom called Benson which aired from September 1979 to April 1986 on ABC. Her sister was asleep most of the time, so Malika was the baby who had to do most of the work. She went on to do print and commercials as a young girl.
Her breakthrough role and most favorite project she has worked on was a Walt Disney movie called Sky High, released in 2005. Malika played Penny Lent, a cheerleader with special powers who attended a school for teenage superheroes. She went on to star in the 2006 box office smash hit ATL; her and her twin playing Star and Veda in a film about love, drama and growing up in Atlanta, Georgia.
Malika has been seen on Keeping Up With the Kardashians and most recently Khloe and Lamar. Having success as an actress, Malika never expected to be a part of reality TV and says she “fell into it” being Khloe’s best friend and around the family for so long. She met Khloe as a teen through an ex boyfriend that Khloe was best friends with. They “instantly clicked."
Being in the public eye, Malika feels there are things said about her that are not on point and not how she wants to be perceived. She has younger nieces and nephews and tries to set a good example for them. Although she says she’s not perfect; she does her best to be a good person, wants to be seen in the best light and stresses that people should be the best they can be.
She is currently single.
Malika has an obsession with bowling and loves to play against her twin stating that the two are very competitive. She loves to spend quality time with her family playing Taboo, is very into the arts and watching movies, enjoys shopping and co-ed dinners.
Malika hopes to get involved with a charity to help a cause close to her heart: Down's Syndrome disease.
Her advice to anyone getting started in entertainment?
Do your research, stay dedicated and make your dreams your reality. We can sometimes want instant gratification but things take time. You may think you want to be in front of the camera and discover being behind the camera is the better choice for you. Strive for excellence and give your all.
