Just recently, The Creative Coalition hosted its annual Spotlight Initiative Gala at the Sundance Film Festival by STK staged by The Sky Lodge in Park City, Utah. The recent event was an intimate, candlelit gathering with less than 200 guests in attendance. Numerous celebrity attendees included Emile Hirsch, Cheryl Hines, Rose Mc Gowan, Jonathan Pryce, Tim Daly, Rory Kennedy, Lea Thompson, Alia Shawkat, Cameron Monaghan, Mike Cahill, John Carrol Lynch, Randall Emmett, Richard Kind, Ariana di Lorenzo, Jonathan Pryce, Randall Emmett, David Wain, and many other celebrity guests. In past years some of the celebrity award recipients have included A-list talent such as Demi Moore, Quentin Tarantino, and Robin Williams, to name just a few.
The Creative Coalition was initiated over 25 years ago by celebrity talents including Christopher Reeves, Alec Baldwin, and Susan Sarandon, among others in the entertainment world. The aim of The Creative Coalition is to use the influence of the entertainment community as a platform to advocate for compelling social issues contemporary society faces. CEO, Robin Bronk explained that The Creative Coalition Initiative Award was initiated to serve as a “beam of light on the artistry of independent film and those who create it.”
One creative mind demonstrating talent through independent film was actress Rose McGowan who was all smiles, as she received the Spotlight Initiative Award. Currently, Mc Gowan has been working on the other side of the camera as a director in her short film, Dawn, which made its premiere at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. The short film Dawn, is about a teenage girl who suspires for more excitement from her sheltered life.
Yet another leading lady that spoke at the Spotlight Initiative Gala was Cheryl Hines from the ABC sitcom Suburgatory. Hines is also known for her work in HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm with co-star Richard Kind. Additionally, Hines has also made her debut as a director with her involvement in the films such as Campus Ladies, Serious Moonlight, and We Need Help. During dinner, Hines said, “It is a true inspiration to be around like minded friends in the entertainment world sharing our journeys of hard work. We are all coming together tonight to embrace our talents.”
Other female celebrities attending the Spotlight Initiative Gala included the congenial Lea Thompson from Caroline in The City, along with the young and talented actress, Ariana di Lorenzo, from The Soprano’s.
Although many female talents were in attendance, many male members of the creative community attended such as Argo’s Richard Kind. Evan Handler (Sex In The City) (Californication) also supported the Spotlight Initiative along with Tim Daly, who currently serves as the president of The Creative Coalition. Other than his leadership role, Daly is known for his work in Grey’s Anatomy, Law and Order, and The Sopranos.
Congratulations to the recipients of this year’s Creative Coalition Spotlight Initiative Awards at the Sundance Film Festival. See you next year at the Creative Coalition's Gala to honor more great talent!
