On July 11, 2017 the first Annual Golf Tournament and Gala Dinner will be held at Crosby in Rancho Santa Fe. Kayla’s Foundation: “Live Like Kayla” has organized the tournament to raise money to provide social change and youth educational opportunities.  Larry Castro, Kayla’s father stated, “Kayla’s gift to others was to always share kindness. Her mother Allison and I want to keep Kayla’s energy alive by continuing the beauty of her purpose and essence of her spirit. We realize that to break the cycle of poverty and to make positive social change, we may help through providing resources and opportunities to educate youth toward adult life.” The “Live Like Kayla” Foundation is a non-profit organization that offers college scholarships, sponsorship, and programs to benefit underprivileged children and young adults.

Kayla was a beacon of light from birth to the day she transitioned from the earth’s plane. Her unconditional loving and helpful nature with her electric smile just drew people toward her. Her father Larry shared, “Kayla had that ‘Secret Sauce’ that very special openness where people could confide in her and feel safe.”  Kayla was a self motivated person and at age nine she put a white board up so she could write out the things she wanted to accomplish for the day, week, and year.  She was also an accomplished student who was on track to finish college in three and a half years with an academic and athletic scholarship.

Kayla, after completing a final at Grand Canyon University, went on a hike with a friend at Eco Canyon Trail. While hiking Kayla slipped and fell 100 feet on April 20th 2016.  She held strong in ICU for ten days and family gathered in hope that Kayla would make it through the accident. Unfortunately, on April 30, 2016 her father received that dreaded call saying that his daughter had taken a turn for the worst and needed to return to the hospital immediately. Larry disclosed, “Approximately twenty minutes prior to the doctor’s call I remember the wind blowing and moving a tree next to where I was standing. I thought to myself, her spirit moved up to be with the Lord. Not even 20 minutes later I received the call from the doctor. I didn’t want to believe it, it was unreal. That was a hard moment.”
