Bravo's Reality TV Stars Alex McCord and Simon van Kempen Launch Parenting Book

Bravo TV's Real Housewives star Alex McCord and her husband Simon van Kempen recently launched their upcoming parenting book at the ultra elegant Bruno Jamais Supper Club on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Alex McCord at Bravo TV's The Real Housewives of New York launch Party (r) and Alex and Simon at the launch party of their new parenting book due later this year.

The launch of their book preceded the second season premiere party of Bravo TV's The Real Housewives of New York that had the full cast on the red carpet at Gilt in the posh Palace Hotel in New York City.

SVP of Programming, Bravo, Andy Cohen, reality T.V. stars Kelly Killoren Bensimon, LuAnn de Lesseps, Jill Zarin, President, Women and Lifestyle Networks, NBC Universal, Lauren Zalaznick, general manager, Bravo, Frances Berwick, and reality T.V. stars Bethenny Frankel, Ramona Singer, and Alex McCord, attend “The Real Housewives of New York City” season 2 premiere party at Gilt at the Palace Hotel on February 11, 2009 in New York City.

The book was birth from the roles that each of them have grown into as The Real Housewives have progressed. Known as the jet-setting duo from Brooklyn raising two young boys in what New Yorker’s call the suburbs and the rest of world knows as Brooklyn; the two are dedicated parents balancing big city lives with strong family ties reminiscent of values reserved for life in a much smaller town. And doing it all in front of the cameras.

Simon Van Kempen dips his wife Alex McCord in a nostalgic kiss for the cameras.

Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, Alex and Simon’s home, is right across the Brooklyn Bridge, one stop from the heart beat of Manhattan. The book is directed to every parent and addresses parenting issues that may be lost in chaos. It doesn’t present a “look at our glamorous lives” picture but really squashes all the stories of planning on pre-K pre birth that are often used to describe the children of Manhattan’s achievers.

As in the show, Simon is an active and dedicated Dad who is a believer in communication as the two participate in verbal volley’s that is their signature style of discussion. They bring that same style to the book. Allowing for readers to incorporate the technique into their own lives as each chapter ends with the communicated volleys.

For media and guest the party at Bruno's was a "real" success.

The ultra elegant  Bruno Jamais Supper club hosted the evening. Bruno’s is nestled in a luxurious Mansion opposite the grand façade of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  With the charming Bruno unavailable for the majority of the evening the party seemed almost empty.  In his absence, French artist-in-residence Cyrille Margarit played the part of host with ease. The hor’dourves flowed as freely as the wine and ranged from a whipped mousse foie gras and chicken pate to delicate spring rolls, rolled crab cakes and creamed spinach canapés in thin wraps.

From the menu: Duo of Lamb.

With two wine cellars to cater to even the most exclusive needs the magnificent wine selection at Bruno’s ranges from moderate priced, $40.00 per bottle to the amazing $9,000.00 per bottle. Once again allowing his restaurant to be utilized for the launch party I have sampled both wine and various hor’dourves. The white wine, always my favorite, is smooth and light with a subtle fragrance and at first sip, charming and inviting.

This event was the first for Bruno’s new Executive Chef Hok Chin.  Bruno’s offers magnificent culinary creations fusing Asian and French cuisine to create an entrée menu featuring Scallops 4 Ways, A Duo of Lamb, and Porterhouse for Two with bordelaise sauce and potato gratin.  The restaurant caters to an exclusive clientele and creates a comfortable atmosphere with a feel of privacy welcomed by all.

The evening was a smashing success with a host of celebrities and well-wishers in attendance to celebrate Alex and Simon’s parenting book and like some expectant parents they haven’t decided on a name quite yet. With the due date later this year we are eagerly waiting the title.
