LASplash.com: New York Events Brash Entertainment and XSEED games review - 3 new products By Chad Menville (New York, NY) June 24, 2008 - Brash Entertainment, the Hollywood based videogame publisher and XSEED Games, publisher of top selling Japanese titles, hosted an afternoon of games at the fashionable Hudson Hotel.
The first game presented was Valhalla Knights 2. Players follow an original story created by scenario writer Miwa Shoda of the Final Fantasy series. Valhalla’s premise is the God of judgment coming to earth. The main character must then set out on a quest to find the Goddess. Up to 6 players can participate and strategize on the fly. This includes a wide range of character customization, even in mid-game.
Players are able to select facial expressions and names for their players. One can choose from 12 different job classes for their characters, and select behavior and position. For example, the player can position their hunters in the front of the pack and their healers in the back. Humans, halflings, martial artists and dogs are but a few of the possible characters in the ultimate battle party.
Also on the menu are more than 200 types of armor, 180 magic spells, and a vast arsenal including chainsaws and rocket launchers. This complex game has 80 quests that are sure to hold any gamer’s curiosity. The most realistic component of Valhalla Knights 2 is that there is no lag time. The characters’ movements are seamless and take place in real time, unlike previous games in which characters never seemed to move fast enough.
A new feature offers an indicator showing your character’s point of view as well as the location of your enemies, even when they aren’t in your sights. The quick pace and physicality of this game is sure to delight gamers when it premieres this September. New for the Wii is Little King’s Story, a game in the developmental stages but one that will be available in winter 2008. Using live simulation with RPG elements, this one is navigated with the analog stick. With its fairy tale art-look, Little King’s Story begins with a young boy named Corobo. Shy, and without many friends, he goes for a walk in a forest near his village when he stumbles upon a powerful and mysterious crown.
Corobo soon discovers that the crown grants him the ability to charm any person he meets, and make them follow his orders. Suddenly, Howzer, the bull-knight appears, informing Corobo that he must not take this responsibility lightly. Returning to his sleepy village as a king instead of a shy boy, he begins a quest to turn his hamlet into a noble kingdom. As King Corobo, the player’s job is to speak to and protect the people of the Alpoko Kingdom. In addition, the player must defeat corrupt kings of other lands. To earn respect Corobo must gain experience.
Then, a mystery title was announced – the Korg DS10 Synthesizer, available October 2008. Barely larger than a mobile phone, the Korg has a vast array of capabilities. Its touch-control screen is easy to use, as are its 6-track features, and delay, chorus and mixing board. Designed for the Nintendo DS its musical possibilities are many, making it the perfect instrument for creating music demos. Ideal for DJs and novice composers, the DS10 offers easy to use editing and patching programs. In the space of a minute it allows you to both compose an original score and then begin a game of Mario Kart. Besides, it’s small enough to stow away just when you see your supervisor approaching.
