A Hamptons Happening Review - Celebrating Three of the Greats

On July 26th, the Bridgehampton estate of Maria and Kenneth Fishel came alive with the tenth annual "A Hamptons Happening", celebrating ten years of cancer research support through the Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation (SWCRF). The Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation has pioneered the development of cancer cell reprogramming, researching and finding epigenetic therpies for cancer patients that will pave the way to a cure. Their mission is "is to eradicate cancer by funding cutting-edge research that identifies and corrects abnormal gene function that causes cancer and develops minimally toxic treatments for patients." The event "A Hamptons Happening" has been going on for ten years, funding cancer research through the SWCRF, and providing a future that is more possible and attainable with each passing year.

The event simultaneously honored celebrity chef David Burke, fashion designer Betsey Johnson, and co-founder of Row for Hope, Paul Ridley, for their support towards cancer research. The celebration was a roaring success when philanthropists, gourmet foodies, and celebrities alike joined forces to raise $400,000 for SWCRF through a live auction conducted by SWCRF's founder and CEO Samuel Waxman, MD, founding co-chair of "A Hamptons Happening" Laurie Schaffran, and WCBS-TV Channel 2 News Anchor Chris Wragge. When Waxman revealed a $25,000 grant by the Fishel Family in support of brain cancer research, Wragge spontaneously held an auction to match the Fishel's donation.

About 400 guests wined and dined on the best gourmet food and drink of NYC and the Hamptons provided by top chefs and restaurants including Red Stix, Fresh Hamptons, Georgica, The Cuddy, Carlyle on the Green, Red Horse Market, Pizza Luca, Bareburger, and the Hampton Chocolate Factory, to name only a few. Douglas Elliman, Palm Bay International, and Brewery Ommegang provided financial and in-kind sponsorships, while D.J. Phresh of 4AM spun the music for the event. The primary auction was orchestrated by Howard Schwartz, principal of Grandstand Sports and Memorabilia, and featured iconic actor from The Godfather, Gianni Russo, who presented a donation for the auction of an authentic Sicilian dinner for eight plus some classic Italian serenading by the actor himself. To top it all off, an after party was hosted by chairpersons of the SWCRF's new Millennial Society including Joanna Wexler, Melissa Fishel, Bradley Fishel, and Allyson Shapiro at Red Stix.
