“Christmas at My Place” - Review of Travis Cloer's Show at Las Vegas' Smith Center

If you are already preparing your list for Santa for 2016, then put down tickets to see Travis Cloer's annual Christmas show “Christmas at My Place”in the Cabaret Jazz Room at the Smith Center for a delightful evening of Christmas music and songs the way you want to hear them. Melodious, moody, and mellow updated a bit, but with the traditional sounds - take your pick. It was all there along with some talented special guests.

Cloer is best known for his role of Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys at the Paris Hotel & Casino. This performance provided the audience with a look at his range outside of the show. He invited us to “sit down by the fireplace with a glass of wine” and enjoy the evening. While there may not be a fireplace, the room has the kind of groovy vibe I remember from small clubs in Greenwich Village in days gone by.

The Cabaret Jazz Room is the perfect setting for “Christmas at my Place”. Not too large (about 250 seats) and with great acoustics. After Cloer's rendition of that wonderful classic, “Santa Claus is Coming to Town”, special guest Niki Scalera joined him for “Marshmallow World” and “Winter Wonderland”.

Popular Jersey Boys' Musical Director Keith Thompson partnered with Cloer for this evening of entertainment which also included Frankie Moreno singing and creating his usual magic at the piano. Mark Shunuck of Rock of Ages joined Cloer to sing “Christmas in Las Vegas”.

A highlight of the evening was Cloer's original composition, “Baby it's Cold Under The Mistletoe” which you can hear on his new CD, “Travis Cloer Christmas at My Place”. A number of the cast members from Jersey Boys joined in for “Let it Snow” and Jingle Bells.” The mix of tunes was perfect.
