Zowie Bowie Late Night Review - Brings the Old Vibe Back To Vegas at Bally's Windows Room
“The maverick spirit of Las Vegas” is a phrase you'll hear often from Chris Phillips aka Zowie Bowie. The blond haired import from Arizona is living his dream of headlining in Las Vegas. His gigs have varied from tuxedo clad showman doing old standards at Mandalay Bay to ripped jeans, open shirted performer at Red Rock.
For the moment, Zowie Bowie has found a home for what is said to be a limited four week engagement in the Windows Room at Bally's. His opening show last Thursday, July 25 featured his steady squeeze, the very talented violinist Lydia Ansel from Bella Strings, the controversial Motley Crue frontman Vince Neal, the smooth crooner Travis Cloer from Jersey Boys, The Scott Brothers from VEGAS! The Show and his frequent singing partner Nieve Malandra, among others.
Cast members from Jersey Boys, Rock of Ages, and Tony and Tina's Wedding turned out in strong numbers to support Zowie Bowie. In the audience and walking the red carpet were luminaries including Coco, currently staring in Peepshow, Golden Nugget headliner Gordie Brown, Celebrity magician Murry Sawchuck who is currently appearing at the Tropicana, Jeff Civillico of Comedy in Action at The Quad, Multi impersonator Peter Pavone as the Most Interesting Man in the World, Carrie St. Louis and Mark Shunuck of Rock of Ages and Chris Allen of Defending the Caveman.
Beginning with “For Once in My Life” Chris sang, chatted, and hailed his show business buddies as he displayed his casual style, huge smile, and practiced swagger through an assortment of songs solo and with the ladies who often sing with Zowie Bowie.
The backing of Lon Bronson and his horn section enhanced the evening. This is Vegas the way it used to be. Women in dresses, men with jackets and even ties. Elegance, sophistication, and real talent.
Mark Shunock, one of the stand out performers in Rock of Ages is preparing a number for the August 1 show. Las Vegas headliner Murray Sawchuck will show us a little magic too. Jeff Leibow of Jersey Boys is scheduled for the following week. I for one can't wait for the next show on Thursday evening, August 1 at 10:30 p.m. in The Windows Showroom at Bally's.
Be there early for the chance to mix and meet some of the celebrities who show up to support this “maverick” Chris Phillips aka Zowie Bowie and his vintage Vegas style.
See you there!
Tickets are $38.49 and can be purchased at the Bally’s box office at (702) 739-4111.
