Zombie Burlesque Review - Zombies and Burlesque is Campy Fun

Who should see this zany show with the strange title of Zombie Burlesque? Everyone over 18 who likes a good time. The show, is currently playing upstairs at the V Theater in the Miracle Mile behind Planet Hollywood. The premise is that there was an apocalypse resulting in a truce between the dead and the undead. As part of the truce, the zombies agreed to put on a show and allow the live beings to attend.

We -- the audience -- are invited to that show. It is a clever, campy, comedy romp with lots of pazazz, zombie make-up, twirling pasties, outstanding acrobatics, enjoyable song and dance numbers, and an emcee worthy of many accolades. Oh, and “Tiny Bubbles”, the comedic nun. Don't ask. Just see Tiny in action.

How can you not love a show with lines like, “We don't eat innocent people anymore.” or “Everybody is a squirrel trying to get a nut.”Anything that the talented Tiger Martina does, I want to see. He is the genius choreographer/director behind the highly successful VEGAS! The Show running in the Saxe Theatre. He has scored again with this production.

So, if you enjoyed VEGAS! The Show, see this one.

It doesn't have the large theater, the billboards, or the big production numbers. But it does have a talented cast who seem to be enjoying themselves right along with the audience in the 199 seat theater upstairs. In this age of canned music, what a pleasure to find a show with live musicians, especially supporting a cast of zombies.

Okay, about the zombie thing. It's a plot device which makes for some uniquely original make-up and costumes as well as some delightful dance numbers. The night we were there, many folks were seeing it for the second or third time. In the year and a half it has been playing, it has developed a sort of cult following. And who should I find myself sitting next to but Tiger himself who drops by regularly to make sure that his latest production continues to shine. His innovative dance numbers are a delight. Zenoch, the charismatic energetic MC (played by the talented Enoch Augustus Scott) may be the most appealing zombie you'll come in contact with - in your lifetime -- or beyond.

The literature describes the show as a “sexy new take on the zombie apocalypse”. It is burlesque so the show includes the requisite burlesque dancers, and it is Vegas so they take it down to the tassels and tease. But in this show, it is more celebration than seduction.
