Terry Fator Review - Scores with “A Country Christmas” Show at The Mirage in Limited Engagement

Remember those traditional Christmas television shows where there was a knock at the door and a beloved celebrity came in to sing with the host.  It might have been Bing Crosby or Andy Williams or even a slapstick version with Carol Burnett.  We loved them and embraced the shows as part of the holiday and its spirit.

Las Vegas strip headliner Terry Fator has created his own version of the old classic holiday show with a bit of a country western theme. Not surprising, as it is rodeo time and Terry is a Texan. He is also known to appreciate traditional entertainment and entertainers  Bottom line - Terry makes it work for himself and his audiences.

But get there quick.  Season two America’s Got Talent winner Terry has a contract to continue entertaining audiences at the Mirage, but this version of his show  - Terry Fator - Country Christmas - is only running through December 25.

Most of his regular characters stop by including Winston the Impersonating Turtle, Walter  T. Airedale, Vikki the Cougar, and Dougie, the pot smoking annoying neighbor.

Every time the doorbell rang, there was another of Terry’s characters ready to sing for us and/or amuse us.  Add to that assortment a touch of glamour each time Terry’s on-stage assistant and real life wife Taylor (and I am glad she gets to actually speak now) and you have a hit show that will please newcomers and returnees as well.

Ventriloquist — isn’t that a show for the kids?  Sure the kids enjoy it, but don’t leave the adults at home There is plenty of adult humor that flies right over the kids’ heads. Terry is so much more than a ventriloquist.  He’s an entertainer, a singer, a jokester, and an impersonator. This is not just ventriloquism. He sings in the voices of Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis, Garth Brooks, Ethel Merman, Eartha Kitt and a host of others

Every time I see Terry Fator I have to remind myself that he is producing all the voices we are hearing on stage. He is simply remarkable. Get there early to enjoy some fun from pre-show opener Ben Harris.  And take note of the great set design by the fabulous award winning set designer Andy Walmsley.

There is a thread in the show about finding the meaning of Christmas and a moral about friends and friendship.  Nice touch. Special thanks to Terry and his team for remembering that the season also includes the Jewish holiday of Chanukah.

Terry Fator and his lovable characters sing classics such as “Winter Wonderland” and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” but your heart will be warm as you enjoy Terry Fator: A Country Christmas at the Mirage through December 25. The show plays Mondays through Thursdays at 7:30 p.m.
