On October 22nd hair experts sharpened their shears for the Battle of the Strands competition, which took place at The Joint, Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. The highly anticipated competition followed a three-day Vegas Beauty Unbound Event for contenders and attendees that showcased creativity and exquisite craftsmanship with hair.

The Contenders

Leading up to the battle, talented salons from all across the country participated in challenges to secure a spot in the finals. Four respected industry judges, Kandee Johnson, Celebrity Makeup Artist and YouTube Personality, Rafe Hardy, Artistic Creative Director of Sexy Hair, Lori Montoya, a Las Vegas High Roller Star and Fashion Designer, Nick Verreos, judged contenders.

After a few days of competing, 12 salons gathered at the Unveiling Party at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino, Las Vegas Vanity Night Club, co-hosted by Celebrity Hair Stylist Kim Vō. Excitement burst through the air as salon names were revealed to the contenders. Only 5 salons were chosen to compete at Battle of the Strands and provided the final theme for the competition…GOLD.

The five competing salons were: Mile High Magic, Clark Russell Salon, Fringes, Glam Alliance and Body Spa West. The contending salons took the gold theme into their creative hands and portrayed it in an innovative fashion. Jaw dropping designs were critiqued by the panel of judges that appeared impressed by the competition.

The Contenders On Stage

The Body Spa took home the award for Best in Color with Schwarzkopf Professional and Glam Alliance was awarded Best Hair Design with Sexy Hair for their towering take on this year’s theme. However, the most memorable moment was when a statuesque model in golden swimwear appeared onto the stage with two male subordinates at her side. The warrior Goddess instantly captivated the crowd before standing profile to reveal an unbelievably constructed blonde Mohawk. Her astounding mane was curly yet coarse, with beautiful braids intertwined that fell below her hips. The warrior Goddess rendered the judges speechless.
