Wine Riot, the unique wine tasting event aimed to create an accessible space to introduce wine to new demographics, announces its return to Los Angeles on November 9th, 2013. Housed in the historic Majestic Halls near Pershing Square in Downtown Los Angeles, Wine Riot culminates in LA as the final stop on a six-city national tour. Exciting new additions to this year’s event, which offers both afternoon and evening sessions, include a special introductory “Wine 101” booth as well as brand new “Bubbly Bar” featuring sparkling wines. Returning for a third year, Wine Riot is set to deliver its uniquely interactive and tech savvy wine tasting experience to the wine loving masses.
Founded by Tyler Balliet and Morgan First, Second Glass is a unique, tech-driven events company that brings together wine lovers of all ages and all levels of understanding of the modern wine industry. “Our goal for Wine Riot is to take the traditional snobiness out of the wine tasting event experience and to make wine more approachable for everyone,” says Balliet. “Wine Riot is all about learning about wine but having a lot of fun at the same time.”
In its junior year in Los Angeles, Wine Riot always aims to introduce the latest developments in wine education and new subjects in the industry. Guests are encouraged to make their ways to the all-new “Wine 101” booth. Complete with 4 different pairing stations and 8 different wines, the booth aims to educate aspiring oenophiles about the differences between all the major tasting profiles including sweet vs. dry, young vs. aged, oaked vs. unoaked and old world vs. new world. Guests can also look forward to the addition of a brand new “Bubbly Bar,” showcasing every major style of sparkling wine.
This year’s Wine Riot Los Angeles will feature over 35 wine booths representing almost every type of wine from around the world. In addition to its usual selection of international wines, this year’s riot will also feature varietals from Mexico’s Baja wine country showcasing the bold reds and crisp whites native to the region. Unlike any other wine tasting event in the country, Wine Riot aims to reach its target audience via an educational yet interactive setting that thrives on stimulating all 5 senses. Long recognized for its hip vibe and festive atmosphere, this year’s Wine Riot will be no different with fun accessories and activities from postcards and temporary tattoos to a prop-stocked photo booth. But perhaps its most popular attraction—apart from the tasting itself—is the free mobile app for iPhone and Android created specifically for the Wine Riot event. The mobile app comes preloaded with every wine available for tasting at the event and boasts the ability for users to store details about each wine that they “like” or “love” along the way. It allows users to receive real-time notifications of crowd favorites, and can be used after the event to find local stores that carry users’ favorite wines. “People love our Second Glass mobile app. It’s a great way to store information at Wine Riot without having to carry around cards from each winery. It’s also a fun way for our guests to interact with the wineries and to vote on their favorites,” explains Balliet.
Wine Riot will host two identical events on Saturday, November 9th at Majestic Halls located at 650 S Spring St. Los Angeles, CA 90014. Riot One, from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Riot Two, from 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Tickets, which are $60 per person, include unlimited wine tastings, and are available for purchase at Wine Riot LA/Tickets. Uber will be partnering with Wine Riot and offering new users $20 off their first ride and 20% off the ride for existing users.
