Anaheim has plenty to hang its hat on, the playoff bound Ducks, the Angels and of course Disneyland, but the yearly Taste of Anaheim does not have to take a back seat to any of them. The food and music extravaganza that is the Taste of Anaheim took place on Thursday, May 8th at the Anaheim GardenWalk and was once again one of the best restaurant showcase events in all of Orange County.
The Taste of Anaheim always showcases some of the best restaurants in the city, allowing guests to sample dishes that showcase some of the favorites of Anaheim as well as some restaurants that are new and trying to introduce themselves to the city. The two-level GardenWalk makes for a beautiful setting for the Taste of Anaheim and for those in attendance they learned quickly that by the time you finished tasting all that one level had to offer you, you were likely to be full but you would be oh so tempted by the treasures of the level of GardenWalk you had yet to experience.
Everyone at the Taste of Anaheim is always excited to see some of their favorite restaurants such as Slater’s 50/50, Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine, ESPN Zone, and of course if you get a VIP ticket you can enjoy cocktails and food at FiRE + iCE Grill + Bar . Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill was on hand making introductions as they are soon to be joining the GardenWalk family. Anaheim can’t wait to get a look at this once it opens as it sounds like it will be an energetic dining experience with some amazing barbeque on the menu. Just in time for the hot Southern California days, Rita’s of Anaheim was sampling their fantastic Italian Ice that is soon to open right on Euclid Street. Hangar 24 was serving up its amazing craft beer and it was so good the line just continued to grow and grow with repeater tasters! A personal favorite of mine was the shrimp taco that came wrapped in a tortilla grilled with cheese from Rubio’s, just amazing! If you were looking for a great way to finish your dining experience off, the mango parfait from Tangaroa Terrace, was sweet and refreshing.
While the House of Blues on Sunset Strip seems to steal the headlines, Anaheim has its own version right in Downtown Disney. The House of Blues, home to iconic Sunday Gospel Brunch, was not only showing off the fantastic menu that they have, but they were also treating guests to concert tickets. Dave & Busters was also treating guests, they had a ton of prizes to hand out including an entire party if you were lucky enough to spin the wheel just right. The steak and cheese subs were pretty awesome as well from Dave & Buster's. The Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery girls were serving up amazing sandwiches from the famous Anaheim sports bar and pub. UltraLuxe Cinemas was giving away a variety of prizes to their beautiful theater located right inside of GardenWalk. The LA Kiss also had cheerleaders taking pictures to help promote the Arena Football season that recently kicked off.
As dizzying as the amount of food that you try is, plenty of people might just rank the musical lineup even higher than the spectacular food. This year the Taste of Anaheim lineup included; WANTED: The Bon Jovi Tribute Band, No Duh – The Ultimate Tribute to No Doubt and DSB, a Journey Tribute Band. Tribute is right when it comes to all three of these bands as they seemed to get every note, song and lyric as close to the original versions as you can get. WANTED and No Duh were no to the Taste of Anaheim this year and they did not disappoint, guests heard every hit that they could think of from these two groups. DSB has been a staple of the Taste of Anaheim for years and once again brought the hits of Journey to Anaheim and had everyone dancing or singing along and wishing that they would play just a few more songs to close out the night.
While you can find tasting events in a number of cities, those who have attended the Taste of Anaheim can attest that this version really sets the standard. Incredible restaurants who serve up amazing food and servings that are more than taste, an incredible musical lineup all brought together with guests who are incredibly nice and friendly and make this event one that you will be wishing was not another year away.
