Members of the National Latina Business Women Association, Los Angeles Chapter (NLBWA-LA) came together Thursday June 28, 2013 at The Leonard H. Goldenson Theater to honor its 10th year anniversary with the NLBWA-LA Latinas in Business Awards.
Sid Garcia, The Master of Ceremonies of ABC7, kicked off the empowering night by introducing the NLBWA - Los Angeles Chapter President, Veronica Corona. Corona was thrilled to celebrate her fellow Latina professionals accomplishments within the Latino communities in Los Angeles Metropolitan Area.
Mariam Lopez was the first winner of the evening taking home the $2,500 2013 Business Management Academy Grant. The grant allows Lopez to take part in the NLBWA-LA's signature six week program to advance her business.
The night's inspirational Latina Business Women's Awards honored: Entreprenuer of the Year - Maria Contreras-Sweet, Founder/Executive Chairwoman ProAmerica Bank; Corporate Leader of the Year - Lupita Sanchez-Cornejo, Office of External Affairs, AT&T; Inspirational Leader of the Year - Lizette Salas, Professional Golfer, LPGA; and Man of the Year - Ken Ashford, Business Outreach Program, Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.
Deserving Latinas were also awarded as "The Women of Excellence" in categories including law, health & beauty, media, public relations and professional services. The winners included: Irene Carranza, Irene Carranza Arts; Bellaa Castillo, MBA, CCP, CBP, PHR, Kedren Mental Health Hospital; Rosario Mario, Compendium Strategies; Alma McMaster, Southern California Edison; Anita Ortega, Los Angeles Police Department; Connie Perez, Brown Armstrong Accountancy Corporation; Patricia Perez, VPE Public Relations; Dr. Betty Uribe, California Bank & Trust; Fanny Veliz, Criolla Films; Amada Zamudio, White Memorial Medical Center.
