After the success of the inaugural KTOWN Night Market, KCM Agency partnered with the Monterey Park Chamber of Commerce to bring recurring night markets to Southern California. The first Monterey Park Night Market will take place on Friday, July 25 from 5-10:30 pm in Barnes Park. This free event will feature local food vendors, art exhibitions and live performances.
Much like the night markets in Asian countries the MPK Night Market is an inclusive event that builds community involvement. “Ever since we started this project last fall, we’ve been working diligently with KCM Agency to bring an event series that will revive the city of Monterey Park and boost its economy while also bringing attention to the community,” explains Chamber Chair Rafael G. Salazar.
The MPK Night Market offers residents and guests a chance to savor and experience the best the city has to offer. Food choices range from food trucks like The Mighty Boba Truck, Be Waffle and Carb&Nation to establishments like Iota Café. Fluff Ice and Ice Cream Lab will offer chilled treats while The No.1 Currywurst Truck and Bollywood Bites will provide more substantial fare. Unlike other food truck events, the event will feature local farmers’ market vendors from the Monterey Park Farmer’s Market, located next to Barnes Park.
In addition to food vendors, MPK Night Market is hosting the first beer and wine garden in a public park. The alcoholic offerings were a popular idea in city hearings and, according to Mayor Anthony Wong and Council Member Peter Chan, a welcome addition to the city’s nightlife. The nearby American Legion Post 397 will continue the party as night market’s official after-party location.
MPK Night Market will be a feast for the senses as well as the appetite. The Art Walk section of the market will include artist collectives and live art, such as chalk artist, Stacy Nalapraya, and live painter, Ryan Park. Collective Aesthetics, a design community and public art network, will also perform a live art and body painting show in the Barnes Park Amphitheatre There will also be a Beatles Tribute Band performance and 626BBOY Battle by the community organization, 626 Movement.
MPK Night Market is the first in a series of events geared towards reviving the city’s nightlife and bringing attention to local businesses. “We're looking forward to bringing this night market to our city. The festival will provide exciting activities, entertainment, and food for all the residents to enjoy," says Council Member Peter Chan.
Monterey Park Night Market is free and open to the public, the monthly event will take place in Barnes Park from 5 to 10:30 pm one Friday of each month.
