Conductor Sonia Marie De Léon de Vega and the Santa Cecilia Orchestra (SCO) return to Occidental College with “Water Music,” a spectacular opening night concert of SCO’s 21st season on Sunday October 27, 2013, at Thorne Hall. Water Music will celebrating the 100 Year Anniversary of the Los Angeles Aqueduct and feature Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice and Handel’s Water Music Suite.

Inspirational Maestra De León de Vega will start the concert with a delightful group of pieces from Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice. From there, the orchestra will dive right in with Handel’s Water Music Suite. Arguably the most popular piece of Baroque music today, Water Music is memorably tuneful and makes fashionable use of the dance forms popular in that day, combining festivity and finesse. SCO will end their Aqueduct celebration with Beethoven’s immortal Symphony No. 5. Beethoven’s fateful 5th Symphony.

The concert begins at 4:00 p.m. and is performed without intermission. Tickets, which are on sale for 26/$20 (adults) and $7 (children), are available by calling (323) 259-3011 or visiting www.scorchestra.org/concerts.html.
