San Gabriel Valley Newcomers Club Holiday Celebration

 On Wednesday, December 11, 2013 women from the San Gabriel Valley Newcomers Club gathered to celebrate the holiday season at the La Canada Country Club. Members swept into the beautifully decorated adjoin room to greet each other before being seated in the dining room.

Maria Chavez of the fifty-fifty committee, passed the tickets for the centrepiece raffle decked out in her holiday finest, complete with Santa hat.  The program featured Singer Edgardo Romero & Pianist Andy Howe who played mix of holiday and classic songs.

Newcomers President Farryl Weitzman, announced the up-coming events and thanked the board members for their dedication to the club. This year’s board includes President Farryl Weitzman, 1st vice president (luncheons) Shirley Meaglia, and Moira Sanborn 2nd vice president (Programs) Shirley Meaglia and Moira Sanborn, Tours Shary Devore, Recording Secretary-Sharon Romero, Corresponding Secretary-Lori brickner, Treasurer-Donna Bauchman, Parliamentarian-Libby Berry and Historian Shirley Pan.

Newcomers Board Members

 The newcomers and Friends of San Gabriel Valley is a diverse group of women that helps to familiarize new community members in the cities within the San Gabriel Valley through its monthly social activities. This group is so diverse that no matter which activity you choose or when you go, you will find someone interesting to talk to. There is a genuine spirit of inclusiveness that will make you feel at home in the community. 

 The  activities include the Book Club, Marathon Bridge, Bridge, Games, Hiking, Ladies On The Go, Lunch Bunch, Movie Goers, Pinochle, Scrabble, Swingin Chicks, Taste The Grapes and Travel.

Holiday Luncheon

The festivities also included a fundraiser for the Friends of Foster Children organization. Members brought gift cards from Target, Best Buy, or Wal-Mart.

 Friends of Foster Children is a non-profit, all volunteer organization founded in 1976 to enhance the quality of life for abused, abandoned, & neglected children in the San Gabriel Valley by providing goods, services & financial support to children living in residential treatment centers. FOFC also assists newly emancipated foster teens as they learn to set up their own homes, continue their education & struggle to be self-supporting.
