NAS: TIME IS ILLMATIC Review – Hip Hop Is NOT Dead !

...Atleast not with the Legendary, Nas still hitting the stage.

Hennessy V.S presents: NAS: TIME IS ILLMATIC

Born and raised in Queensbridge, NY, Nassir “Nas” Jones showed just how much love he has for the west side, as he made it a priority to celebrate the last stop of his tour in Los Angeles, California. There was so much love filled in the Orpheum Theatre on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, as the seats filled to capacity ready to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Nas’ very first album, Illmatic.

Anticipation Awaits From Thousands Of Nas Fans In The Orpheum Theatre

At 9:15pm, it seemed as though the Theatre wasn’t fully prepared for what they were about to witness – history, literally. Lights dimmed down and the big screen shined, taking the viewers on a ride through time. Nas: Time is Illmatic, a highly anticipated Documentary Directed by One9, captured the true essence of the Hip Hop culture through the eyes, and experiences of Nas. From the struggles of the streets, to the support and musical influences of his family, and to finally the making of his album Illmatic, the documentary showed the prominent history necessary to know in order to understand exactly who NAS is.

Nas Graces The Stage

It was almost surreal how once the documentary ended, with everyone already cheering, Nas shows up on stage bringing everyone to their feet as he performed the very first song off of his very first album Illmatic, entitled Genesis. Sure enough, it was the beginning of such a powerful concert. You began to feel how epic it must have been for Nas to realize that 20 years later, after picking up his first microphone in the early 90’s, to selling over 25 million albums, he has impacted the world through his extremely honest lyrics. That type of talent just doesn’t come around often.

Even the King of Pop himself realized how amazing this young emcee was. At the age of 20, Nas was able to clear a Michael Jackson, Human Nature sample for his Illmatic feature “It Ain’t Hard To Tell”.

There were many firsts happening that night, but one thing for sure that wasn’t a first, was this event being sponsored by Hennessy V.S. The already decade long partnership Nas has with Hennessy V.S has been able to make this special event into a huge success. I’m sure right before he hit that stage, he made a toast with his family and friends while holding up high his personal favorite drink – the “Hennessy Big Apple”.

Cheers to Nas: Time is Illmatic!
