With its aim to merge entertainment with the most relevant Fashion Designers, Artists and Musicians of the moment, Concept Los Angeles took place on October 13, 2012 at Siren Studios as part of LA Fashion Week Spring 2013. Offering an innovative program of international runway shows, informal presentations, artistic installations and crossover musical elements; the objective changes the landscape of fashion events by incorporating the synergy of fashion, art, music, and entertainment.

Nami

Nami, a Brooklyn based fashion designer who is known for its directional clothing line, which is not only elegant but also functional, showed avant-garde prototype models who walked of pure artistic breeding, challenged due to the intricate nature of sans heel platforms for a stark performance smitten by established breakout design artist Sarah Nami.

The constrictive collection balanced flowing elements; accentuated by ribbon bracelets and necklaces giving models superlative sophistication. Strong colors including different shades of green, bright pinks and corals made the classic elegant cuts really stand out. Classic leggings and pants were paired with a-symmetrical shapes. Long tops were shown with interesting prints and a tuxedo jacket was brought back as a dress with leggings, an interesting twist on a classic.

Nuvala had an informal showing during the break. This collection pivots around an origami style pleat technique. A Rayon, burlap-type woven fabric is present in most of the garments and folded in this Japanese technique to give structure and texture to a variety of corseted tops and dresses.

Nuvala

Long, below the knee pencil skirts complete many of the corseted tops that are accentuated on the high waist and flared at hips. Silhouette inspirations from 1950is pin up era and a few freer, more airy, A-shape cuts from 1960 were also part of the inspiration for this season. Interesting also the knitted bamboo dresses with accentuated waist, breast and hips. Environment and Animal friendly fashion fans will be happy to know that no animal products were used at any pointe. And even the leather like materials were vegan leathers, lined with bamboo fabric to give it a fresher look.

Brooklyn based fashion designer Mike Vensel completed the evening with his breezy 2013 Spring Summer Collection titled ” Exodus”, inspired by mass migration and religious freedom. Veiled, wrapped and caped with monastic themes his models truly looked ominous, feminine and beautiful.

Mike Vensel

Vensel’s minimalist approach with splashes of muted colors show confidence playing with form and shape just to get the right balance. His models walking down in asymmetrical back and white silk dresses evoked an air of elegance and serenity.

The dresses were pulled together with a narrow brass belt and reminded on garments worn by Greek goddesses confirming his inspiration from Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.
