De Colores Garden Tour Pre-Party - Botanical Seduction Coming Soon

The Friends of Robinson Gardens joined together for an informal cocktail party on April 20, 2016. Held on the sweeping green lawn between the pool house and the Robinsons’ estate home, the party guests enjoyed time to share experiences and chat about upcoming events while sampling tasty hors d’oeuvres, champagne, and classic wines. The primary focus was on the garden tour planned for May 18, 2016. Grand Marshal Suzanne Rheinstein and Vanguard Award Recipient Louise Roe were honored for their important roles in the planning and execution of the upcoming twenty-eighth annual GARDEN TOUR event. Joni Smith was also honored for her role in planning the Friends fall gala being held in September 2016. The four co-chairs of the GARDEN TOUR - Kathy Choi, Dana Reston-Lyons, Nicole Antoine, and Diane Jenkins - were on hand to help launch the upcoming GARDEN TOUR event.

A legendary hostess and businesswoman known as “the first lady of Beverly Hills,” Virginia Robinson entertained lavishly on the Beverly Hills estate, the first in Beverly Hills and built by her father in 1911. When she died in 1977, she donated the house and grounds to the Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation. The Friends of Robinson Gardens, a group of hard-working volunteers, was tasked with the job of maintaining the historic estate. Currently, tours are offered to the public which share the beauty and elegance of the lush setting. For only $12, participants get to see and feel what it was like to be a Robinson in the first half of the 20th century. Classes in yoga and health and fitness for children are also conducted at the estate.

The Friends of the Robinson Gardens hold several annual events in order to fund the huge job of maintaining the estate and grounds, including the annual GARDEN TOUR. Proceeds from their various endeavors are used to develop children’s knowledge about and interest in gardening; and they plan a special activity for children on Earth Day each year. Friends of the Robinson Gardens co-presidents Adrienne Horwitch and Julia Klein coordinate the many efforts of the group.
