And where else but at Cal Phil can you hear—in one performance!—sounds of the season ranging from immortal classics like Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah to Leroy Anderson’s beloved Sleigh Ride?
They do more, however, than take a romp through the snow. Their performance of excerpts from the Christmastime opera, Hänsel and Gretel, will introduce two young artists embarking upon what will undoubtedly become major careers: 18 year old mezzo soprano, Clare Snodgrass, as Hänsel and soprano Emily Dyer, 16, as Gretel. Both are recipients of the Cal Phil Foundation’s Young Artist Performance Award…with good reason, as you’ll realize from the first note they sing!
The other special guest doesn’t sing—at least not that we’re aware of, although at Cal Phil, you never know! The Maestro just may coax a note or two out of him. But, whatever happens, our featured performer has long earned bravos for his inimitable interpretation of Ho-Ho-Ho….
