Riding has been reinvented.
Despite the chilled wind coming off the ocean, the outdoor arena at the Long Beach Convention Center shone both with the International Motorcycle Show and the introduction of the newest Can-Am Spyder series - the RS for Sport, the ST for sport touring, and the RT for touring. Present for her first ever motorcycle ride was the popular NASCAR star Danica Sue Patrick.
"It was a perfect match," she said, "because Can Am was looking for someone who was new to motorcycling, as I was, but who could handle the new three wheeled bike with ease. I had been looking for a new challenge."
It didn't look like much of a challenge as Danica took the curves with ease. "It's very responsive," she told reporters as she dismounted from the bike. "It's a high risk sport, but what isn't these days."
While you do not need a motorcycle license to drive the Spyder in California, you do need it for other states. Not made for off-road driving, this popular new model is expected to sell fast. It combines the exhilaration of open air riding with the confidence and control that the unique Y-frame design and seven automotive technologies give.
Some of these advances include ABS (anti-lock braking system,) traction control, semi-automatic transmission, dynamic power steering, reverse, cruise and stability control. Low profile 15 inch front wheels as well as sport design front fenders add to the smoothness of the package. All these enable both the driver and passenger to focus on the fun of riding. Updates improve rider comfort as well as a new sporty look. The RS-S (sport) model gets even more attractive with the recalibration of VSS for faster cornering and maximized vehicle agility. Brembo brake calipers are featured on all the wheels.
The Spyder is not a motorcycle, bike, ATV or Trike. "It's stepping out of your comfort zone," said Danica. Despite not having ridden a motorcycle before, Danica stated, " I love it. I feel totally confident on it."
Prices for the Spyder start at $14,800 and up to $32,000 depending on how you want to customize it.
