Top Chef: The Tour took to the road again at the famous Hollywood & Highland Center in the heart of Los Angeles this past week. The Bravo event tour kicked off its fifth annual live interactive cook-off in Los Angeles with Top Chef Chef’testants Richard Blais, Fabio Viviani, and Hector Santiago, in partnership with DirecTV.
The Emmy and James Beard Award winning cable show brings the Top Chef experience on an 18-wheeler semi-truck for a 15-city tour for enthusiasts of the #1 cable show, nationwide. This past Wednesday, fans were treated to a free quick-fire show-down between Richard Blais and Fabio Viviani, and then again on Thursday between Blais and Hector Santiago.
Top Chef admirers were indulged with spectacular mouth- watering dishes from a 15 minute quick fire face off. Local judges Laura Medina writer in the L.A. circuit and myself were joined by spectator and chosen fan from the audience, Lisa Byrum, an assistant principal, visiting all the way from Hartford, North Carolina to savor and judge pork dishes.
Richard Blais, season 4 Chef’testant and winner of All-Stars Season 8, is currently working in conjunction with Bill Clinton for the Alliance for a Healthier Nation to encourage new food system in 400 schools across the nation. Look for Blais in the New York City Marathon, which is an event he is partaking in to raise money for this foundation to help bring better food choices to children. Additionally, Blais will be releasing a new cook book that will be available through Amazon in the coming holiday season. Talks are in the works for a possible Life after Top Chef reality show.
Hector Santiago, Season 6 and owner of Pura Vida, a James Beard Award Winning restaurant based in Atlanta, Georgia for the past 11 years encourages all people to take risks with their cooking and to experience and enjoy all types of food. His secret to good cooking is to keep many spices in the cabinet to enhance and flavor foods. “The key is to experience with the spices and have fun with your cooking experience.”
Fabio Viviani, Seasons 5 & 8, of Los Angeles brings his unrelenting charm and wit to the Top Chef cooking and quick fire events. This fan favorite is owner of Café Firenze here in the Los Angeles area. His unique cooking style, coupled with his charisma, easily makes this restaurant an appealing Los Angeles hot spot.
Top Chef: The Tour will continue on the road next to Long Beach and then move down south to the San Diego area. The tour will culminate in St. Louis, Missouri. Make sure to get out and enjoy some fun, interact with your favorite Top Chef Chef’testants and most importantly indulge in some amazing dishes.
