Amidst the gilded molding and classic high ceilings of
The Alexandria Hotel's
Kabinet Theatre, the stark bold brilliance of
The Wandering Marionettes fill the floor with their vacant faces and haunting eyes peeking through the crowd, as they feel out the energy of the room. The DJ plays ambient electro house while the characters make their way to the stage. Stilt walkers cast their long shadows on the floor. The room sits heavy with mystery.
You find yourself meandering around the room seeking out the corners that have been created to enjoy. The eerily set table for tea awaits it's strange companions. A small child's piano at the head, some what dilapidated, giving ever the more haunting a tune. The secretary's desk with is antique type writer, calls to you “Come strike these keys and weave your own story into the web of time.” Subtle knick knacks find themselves placed throughout the room, each with an adventures story to tell.
Now taking the stage the group in their beautifully abstract dress of black and white are holding signs which simply say “This Way to Truth”. ‘
The Reflection’, one of the well known members of this performance group, stands with a frame in hand. She will speak her wisdom to onlookers from behind the looking glass. You are suddenly plugged into Isabelle's world of Gypsy's and Marionettes. The profound display of well crafted choreography is a fantastic sight. Toy dolls with pop and lock precision draw your ever watchful eye.
The evening takes form in several short acts; some even include a divine aerial show. Between performances, you are left to enjoy the romantic feel of the newly reopened
Alexandria Hotel. Making journeys to the downstairs bar and eatery
The Gorbals is a fine way to get even more out of your evening. They serve food until midnight and have a well stocked cozy little bar.
Downtown's magically surprising regeneration has brought the wonderful history and class out of this once glamorous grand venue. Its radiant glory lost to time is slowly being rediscovered.
The Alexandria's haunting lobby with its player less piano and nostalgic old
Hollywood photos draws you trance like down the halls...a perfect venue for this unique show.
