The Paper Project Los Angeles 2007 Review -- Private Showing with Phillis Diller and Henny Garfunkel

Selected guest were invited to Paper Magazine’s third annual Paper Project Los Angeles 2007 with two amazing exhibits hosted by Mena Suvari and presented by M.A.C. Cosmetics. The private show featured paintings and portraits by two fabulous women: Phyllis Diller and Henny Garfunkel. The event was held at Paper’s Storefront on La Cienaga blvd. at 6:00 p.m. on October the 7.

As you walk in, you couldn’t ignore the strong vibe as the crowd surrounded the artwork of Phyllis Diller and Henny Garfunkel. Everyone seemed to be having a great time admiring the visuals. Many guest had positive feedback on their work, but I was one of the lucky guest to meet the two fabulous women and I hope to see more of their work in the future.

Golden-Globe nominee comedian, Phyllis Diller looked glamorous as ever. She was extremely excited to see her art being sold throughout the night. Known for her distinctive laugh, Diller has not only been working as a stand up comedian, but as an actor and artist as well. Her unique paintings, “ Flowers and Faces,” had an effortless touch that I enjoyed.

Garfunkel  has created editorial features in major magazines, such as Entertainment Weekly, Filmmaker, Premiere, Paper, Time, In Style, Vanity Fair, Elle, Jane, Sundance Insider (as well as the Sundance Channel), and various international publications.

Henny Garfunkel stole the night away with her " One Last Shot - Signed Polaroids." Her exhibit included one last shot of celebrities after photo sessions. Garfunkel has been taking her artistic polaroids since 2000 and has developed, over the years, a collectable of honest celebrity shots that seem to represent who they are and/or how they feel at the moment. Celebrities then autographed the small photo and anything else they wished to say. I had an enjoyable time at her exhibit and I highly recommend it.

In addition, artist Eric Smith added another segment to the show: two DVDs were recorded for Garfunkel’s exhibit and were shown throughout the night. The first DVD: “ A Bide In Life of Henny Garfunkel,” featured many celebrities during and after their editorial shoots giving a sneak-peak into their world with Henny. The second DVD: Lippy ( Loopy) featured Garfunkel showing how she puts on her famous red lips. The segment was quite flattering and tastefully done.

Paper Magazine's third annual Paper Project Los Angeles 2007 had a good start to their week. The public’s viewing for this event will be on November 8 from 12 - 4 p.m. at Paper's Storefront.

I had a great time at this event and I know the other events for this project will be as enjoyable.
