Changing Scene

The West Hall of the Los Angeles Convention Center has been transformed into “a stately pleasure dome” indeed, for the 2009 Academy of Television Arts & SciencesCreative Arts Ball and Governors Ball. Walking into this world of magically-draped fabrics, ever-changing lighting, bold colors, and encompassing music was like walking into “Wonderland.” This hall will be utilized on September 12, following the 2009 Creative Arts Emmy® Awards and again on September 20, following The 61st Primetime Emmy® Awards.

For the twelfth consecutive year, Sequoia Productions is producing the The 61st Primetime Emmy® Governors Ball. Sequoia Production is one of the top event production companies in the U.S. With capabilities to produce every aspect of any event, the Sequoia team knows the importance of producing events that accomplish their unique branding, exciting entertainment and other production elements that create a memorable event and leave guests feeling exhilarated, engaged and well taken care of. Managing events of this size requires compiling a team of 1,200 staff members including 150 chefs, 50 musicians, 250 waiters and 50 bartenders. Sequoia Productions was founded by Cheryl Cecchetto in 1989. Cheryl and her staff attend to each element of the production with an eye for balance. “Everything is important,” says Cheryl. “Every event is treated as if it were a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.” Sequoia Productions, along with many other companies in the event, promotes a “Go Green” attitude in as many areas as they are able.

Breathtaking Lights

The first impression is of the fantastic work by Images by Lighting. It is the official lighting design company for the The 61st Primetime Emmy® Governors Ball. Created in 1981 as one of the first event production lighting design companies in the Los Angeles area, Images by Lighting has become a leader in the industry. Their cache of clients in the entertainment industry includes Fox, HBO, Dreamworks Pictures, Universal Studios, Disney, New Line Cinema, and Warner Brothers.

Lights Everywhere!

The most discriminating palate will be satisfied by the menu. It is not only pleasing to the eye, but also pleasurable to the taste. Patina Catering ( ), part of Patina Restaurant Group, has been dedicated to creating a memorable menu for the Creative Arts and Primetime Emmy® Awards Governors Ball for 11 consecutive years. This year marks the 14th awards ceremony they have executed. With Joachim Splichal, Chef and Founder of Patina Restaurant Group, and assisted by Alec Lestr, Executive Chef, there are more than 200 chefs that work together flawlessly to create the dinners. The process of developing the perfect menu for this night began nearly a year ago right after the 60th Emmy awards and more than 50 dishes were pared down through a series of tastings until the final menu was created.
