Splash Magazines Worldwide Event at Tengu Santa Monica

Tengu Santa Monica

Splash Magazines Worldwide hosted a 'Journalists Appreciation Night' at the Choice Hospitality Group's newest culinary creation Tengu Santa Monica.  Guests danced and mingled to hip hop and dance music spun by a live DJ and enjoyed delicious drinks and mouth watering sushi served by Tengu.  The sushi was so amazing that someone was even overheard saying that the food was 'Rock Star Good', which was a pretty accurate description.   To say that the atmosphere was lively would be an understatment.

A guest strikes a pose

Being that it was 'Journalists Appreciation Night' publisher and founder of Splash Magazines Worldwide, Lawrence Davis socialized with guests and showed his appreciation to journalists, editors and everyone who has helped make the website a success by throwing this fabulous event.  Splash Magazines has an astounding readership of over 20 million hits a month with over 20 worldwide magazines and growing including Los Angeles, New York, San Diego, San Francisco, London, Tokyo, Paris, Amsterdam, Barcelona  and more.

Executive Chef/Sushi Master Shunji Nakao

Providing the singular culinary vision at Tengu Santa Monica is the extraordinarily gifted Executive Chef/Sushi Master Shunji Nakao of Matsuhisa and The Hump fame.  A protege of legendary sushi master Nobu Matsuhisa, Shunji worked closely with Nobu at the Osho restaurant, and later as one of the first sushi chefs hired by Nobu to work at his signature Matsuhisa restaurant in Beverly Hills.

After running the kitchen at Matsuhisa for four years, Shunji opened his own sushi restaurant, Asanebu, in Studio City, and later became Executive Chef at the highly acclaimed sushi restaurant The Hump, atop the Santa Monica Airport.

The Dining Room at Tengu

Designed by the celebrated Franklin Studios, Tengu Santa Monica reinterprets the traditional Asian aesthetic with a contemporary flair.  With its dramatic black-and-white palette, sculpted coffered ceilings, lavish use of Indian marble and travertine, and bleached wood parquet floors, the feeling is of a grand Japanese palace.

The fabulous waiters at Tengu

Matching indoor-outdoor sushi and cocktail bars anchor the main dining room, which wrap into one of the city's most spectacular oceanfront patios, affording an unobstructed view of the Pacific Ocean (formerly longtime home to the famed Ivy at the Shore).
