Los Angeles hails as a city where singletons struggle with the relentless challenge of looking for that perfect mate, especially if you are over the age of 35. It makes no sense how so many happy couples parade around with strollers and spouses, while others are desperately attempting to meet “the one.” Well, all problems solved my friends. Enter
Patti Stanger and her over-the-top staff of matchmaking gods, swooping in to save the day for all of those hopeless romantics (especially the ones with deep pockets).
Fans of the Bravo TV show
The Millionaire Matchmaker turned out at Santa Monica’s posh Fred Segal store to get some one-on-one love advice from Patti herself and scored a copy of her new book, “
Become your own Matchmaker: 8 Easy Steps to Attracting your Perfect Mate.” Her fun personality, no B.S. approach to letting people know why they are still single offends most, but at the end of the day enlightens others. Being single in the city can entail multitudes of online dating sites, unpromising singles events, and some of the worst blind dates ever heard of. For those of us who need a break from the desperado scene, Patti’s helpful, blunt, and insightful advice aids in becoming your very own matchmaker, ready and able to find someone for the long haul.
After a chat with the love doctor face to face, it’s hard not to agree with Patti’s mantra claiming that, “Now, men just think that they can sleep with anyone and that’s it. In my book I give a lot of dating advice, but most of all, I say that you have to go on a 12 month plan. If the guy hasn’t committed himself to you in a year, it’s time to walk away. One year and that is it!” C’mon, who hasn’t been in that tragic relationship, going on year seven without any sign of a diamond ring?
“Become your own Matchmaker” outlines situations for young women under 35 and for those who are watching their biological clocks tick away, unmarried and ready for a commitment. There is that stereotypical pitch of competing with younger counterparts or having less of a chance if you have never been married. However, her book gives practical advice to women on mentally and physically preparing oneself in order to meet an ideal man, even detailing great places to meet your very own knight in shining amour. Patti recommends, “Breckinridge, Colorado. The ratio of guys to girls is 11 to 1 and they are all so nice. They open doors, act like real gentleman. All you have to do is go skiing and you will meet a great guy.” Who would have thought? Throw on a pair of skis, hit the slopes, and there you have it!
Patti’s intuitive nature and shrewd guidance has taken more than one unattached gal all the way to the top and even her staff sees the fruits of her labor. Destin Pfaff, Patti’s right hand matchmaking man, loves, “getting baby pictures of a couple that we set up. It’s so nice to see them fall in love and start a family.” But at the end of the day, Patti’s book is meant to simply help others find their way in this overwhelming world of relationship woes. When it comes down to it, take the millionaire matchmaker’s word and don’t force anything that doesn’t feel natural. If you hate golf, then don’t force yourself to learn how to play for a dude. Take this book with a grain of salt and choose what will work for your life and just disregard information that doesn’t apply to you.
But, at the end of the day know this – after three generations of successful matchmakers, Patti Stanger and her divine crew know exactly what they’re talking about.
