Over the weekend actress Holly Robinson Peete and The Peete Family celebrated fashion, music and philanthropy for their 16th Annual DesignCare in benefit of the HollyRod Foundation. The night featured L.A. based celebrity fashion designer Michael Costello and his newest collection to hit Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion week this fall.
Some of Hollywood’s most notable celebrities joined the evening at the Lot Studios, Hollywood to raise awareness and funds for autism and Parkinson’s disease. Supporters included: Naturally 7, Dwyane Wade, Russell Simmons, Candace Cameron Bure, Laila Ali, Sugar Ray Leonard, Alex Meneses, Leeza Gibbons, Tommy Davidson, Octavius J. Holly Robinson Peete begun the evening in a glamorous signature piece by Michael Costello and continued to rock outfit changes all night long. The Peete Family joined her by kicking off the night with a cocktail reception and silent/live auction. Guests were treated to a special musical performance by A cappella R&B group Naturally 7. Known for their “Vocal Play,” Naturally 7 had attendees on their feet grooving to an unforgettable rendition of Sting’s “Englishman in New York.”
The element highlighting the festivities—Michael Costello’s newest collection hitting the runway. In anticipation, the models strutted in floral, metallic and laced-sheer gowns that left the audience awe. Known to reputation, each design piece was form-fitting and built to fit the curves of a woman’s body. Costello’s collection surely left guest more than satisfied.
DesignCare 2014 honored Serena Esformes, FedEx, Pamela Wiley-Wells, Ph.D., Izzy Paskowitz, Ben Petrick and Anthony Starego, for their incredible contributions to the autism and Parkinson’s communities. Serena Esformes is not only the designer for SMAK apparel but Dwyane Wade personally attended the HollyRod Event to help support Serena and the brand.
For those unaware of autism and Parkinson’s disease—autism is a lifelong, complex neurobiological disorder for which there is currently no documented cure and Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a disorder of the central nervous system that destroys an area of cells in the brain known as the substantia nigra.
The HollyRod Foundation is dedicated to providing compassionate care to those living with autism and Parkinson’s disease. Efforts of the HollyRod Foundation are providing a better quality of life for individuals and their families. For more information on how you can contribute to the cause, visit www.TheHolly.org
