Just recently the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society also known as LLS had their Man & Woman of The Year Grand Finale Awards Gala at the Ritz Carlton in the West End district of Washington, D.C. This is the 22nd year the organization has put on this event. The aim of LLS is to bring cancer awareness to the general public and to put an end to diseases such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, while improving the lives of families affected by these illnesses.

The master of ceremonies included hosting by Laura Evans of Fox 5 News along with Brian Egan, the honorary co-chair. Some of the presenting sponsors included Northrop Grumman and Northwest Mutual. The night included presentations by groups of men and women that have been fundraising over the course of the year on behalf of LLS. I met up with women of the year, first runner up Roxana Muzzammel who raised $96,114.00 with her campaign team for blood cancer research.  Roxanna said, “My contributions from my research grant portfolio will be dedicated to my father, Dr. Al Mohiuddin Muzzammel. The LLS research grant I chose to sponsor will include acute myeloogenous leukemia and myelodysplastic syndromes. Even though there was no cure in my father’s lifetime, I hope to help find a cure in mine so no other cancer patient has to go through what my father had gone through. My father would have wanted me to help mankind’s fight against blood cancer.”
