Michael Feinstein and CJO Review - A Magnificent Start of Auditorium Theatre’s Season

‘S Wonderful! ‘S marvelous! that we could hear, see, laugh with, swoon and sway, snap and tap the evening away with not only the incomparable Michael Feinstein but also with Jeff Lindberg’s world-renowned Chicago Jazz Orchestra.  What a perfect pairing!

So many ingredients and factors contributed to this perfect evening.  Feinstein’s gorgeous voice alone would have been enough.  Last night the audience was astonished at how long he held an exquisite note. But we were already captivated by his reverence for the lyrics.  And how anyone can turn a space as huge as the Auditorium Theatre into an intimate bistro is beyond me, but Michael did it. And he didn’t stop there. His rapport with the CJO was utterly astounding.  They were so musically in synch with one another it was like mind reading.

The evening, a musical preview of his new book and album, The Gershwins and Me, featured beloved melodies of George and Ira Gershwin including Love is Here to Stay, Someone to Watch Over Me and Embraceable You

Frank Sinatra was also honored as Michael regaled us with selections from his Grammy-nominated CD, “The Sinatra Project,” and its follow up, “The Sinatra Project, Volume II—The Good Life.” The hits just kept coming as we were transported with cherished staples like Luck Be A Lady, and The Way You Look Tonight. He even invited the audience to sing along with That’s why the Lady is a Tramp.

But, for me, it was Cole Porter’s poignant So in Love with You Am I  from Kiss Me Kate that melted my heart. The concert was truly an unforgettable evening.
